I have a 2016 Ford Edge Titanium with power lift gate. I started having trouble with this liftgate over a year ago. Occasionally it wouldn’t open. Then it got gradually worse. By last week it would not unlock or open at all 90% of the time. I tried all the internet tricks, enable/disable the switch, disconnect the battery, etc. Nothing worked anymore. Dealership service dept said it was “probably the latch†and quoted $600 to replace it, with no guarantee it would solve the problem. I found this part on Amazon for $58 and instructions on YouTube. Decided to take a chance. It took me about an hour to change the latch assembly. I had to find a T40 Torx wrench and a 10 mm socket with extension. Once I had the tools removal of the old assembly was quick. Installation was easy, this after market part fit perfectly. Putting the back plastic piece back on was a bear. That took me about 15-20 min alone. But I finally figured it out.The fist time I tried to operate the liftgate nothing worked. My heart sank. I manually closed it and started the car. I enabled the liftgate switch then tried the release a few more times. After a few minutes it finally started working. It sounds a little different than the OEM one but other than that seems to work perfectly. I will update this review if there are future issues.

After purchasing an automatic latch for the rear hatch of my Ford Edge on Amazon, my initial impressions of its quality quickly faded due to a critical malfunction that developed shortly after installation. Initially, the latch functioned almost flawlessly, securing the liftgate as designed. However, it soon began to exhibit a concerning issue where, after closing, the liftgate would appear to secure itself only to unexpectedly release without fully opening, leaving it in a partially secured state. This malfunction meant the liftgate was neither fully latched nor safely closed, posing a safety risk, especially when it occurred while driving. This problem became more frequent over time, rendering the part unreliable outside of the return window, leaving me with no option for a refund or exchange. Delving into other customer reviews, I found that my experience was not unique but shared by many, raising questions about the product’s consistency and quality control.Despite the lure of its low cost, the inconvenience and potential expense of replacing a part that fails so soon after purchase have led to regret. The discrepancy between the widespread issue reported in reviews and the part’s overall 4-star rating is baffling. It suggests either a quality control lottery, where only a lucky few receive a functioning part, or a lack of updated reviews reflecting the product’s long-term reliability. For those considering this purchase, be aware of the risk of encountering the same malfunction where the liftgate fails to remain securely latched, potentially leaving your vehicle’s hatch in an unsafe and unpredictable state. This issue, combined with the product’s misleadingly high rating, underscores the importance of approaching with caution and considering the broader spectrum of user experiences.

Working good so far! Original latch on power liftgate on our 2015 Edge would only release occasionally. Sometimes it would open once a day then quit or would go days without being able to open. This new latch fit perfectly and has opened it every time so far. Only issue was getting the inside hatch panel back on after installing the new latch. Best to have another person helping. Note that this latch fits perfect for Edge with Power Liftgate. Manual liftgates use a different type of latch.

Fits my 2017 Ford Escape SE 2.0 AWD. I had a problem with the lift gate not always opening and at the same time the Auto Start feature did not work anymore. After six years the battery was weak, so it was replaced with a fresh one. All functions came back and worked for two months. Again, the trunk did not always open properly, with any of the three buttons. These would be the trunk release on the dash, the key FOB or the handle on the rear gate. Right out of the box this new actuator has restored all the proper functions to all three buttons. Now everything works as it should.

After a few install issues, seems to be working fine. Install was hindered a bit because the three bracket holes for the Torx bolts didn’t line up properly. I had to bend and tweak it to get it to install. Also, the plastic cover that goes over the exposed part of the latch does not have the manual release access hole in it. The OEM cover fit, so I used it instead, although I’m not all that confident it aligns well enough on this aftermarket latch to allow manual release.

Fit my 2016 Ford Edge Titanium with power lift gate. The hardest part of the repair was getting the plastic panel cover on and off! Works great and was a third of the cost of the OEM part.

Works on my 2018 ford escape se. The fob stopped working, the button near steering wheel stopped and you couldn’t open it manually by outside button. It was basically stuck closed. My husband took the inside panel off to get it open and then changed it. Getting the panel off was probably the hardest part. And this was the cheapest way to buy the part. AutoZone wants $200 and rock auto wants $100. I’m glad I found it and tried it.
