I was impressed when I first unwrapped it. Beautiful design with raised gold script announcing it's contents in a very sturdy box. It comes with a wrap-around paper ribbon giving it a touch of elegance.I know.Beginning a review with a description of the box may seem odd, but in this day of cheap stuff, sometimes un-labeled at all, was a stunning surprise. And it just got better when I opened the box. A wand that truly looks magical was resting an a velvet-covered form-fitting depression with a wand rest. On top of the wand was a small card that says simply "Wand Care Use and Instructions". And, inside, were (real) admonishments to keep it clean and dry, ending with the sentence "'Always use your wand responsibly and follow proper spell-casting techniques."Slipped inside the card were diagrams of wand motions for 30 different spells. At this point, any child that gets this as a gift will know they have the real deal. Picking it up you can feel the wand has weight and heft. It's covered with carved runes (so you know it's authentic). It has an unobtrusive on/off switch and USB charging connection on the bottom (charging cord included) and a conveniently placed button to turn the wand on and cycle through 5 bright colored lights.Trying it out, I was disappointed to discover that none of the spells actually worked. (I had been looking forward to using the "repairo" spell to fix some of my broken objects.)Nonetheless, any budding wizard would be thrilled to have this. There's no mention of ties to Harry Potter, but it looks like it could have been purchased in Ollivander's Wand Shop.Except for the spells not working, this is a top quality toy, uh, I mean magic wand.

I took my daughter to Universal and Harry Potter World. We bought a wand there for $60. It was basically a stick, but she loved it but wanted it to be "more" for lack of a better term. I saw this one with the light feature and ordered it for her birthday. This one is also basically a stick, but a stick with a color changing light on the end that is also rechargeable and comes with a little stand to display or store it when not in use. She really loves this one and attaches spells to it - the blue light is her freeze spell, and the red light is her fire spell and so on. If you have a harry Potter fan or especially have plans to go to Wizarding World, get this one and take it with you. Other kids and some adults will be jealous. There are stations around wizarding world where you can activate "magic" with the correct wave of your wand - these magic spots do not know where you purchased your wand. They are motion activated. Buy with confidence!
