This is a neat little item. I was searching for a Galileo thermometer and came across this. With the wooden base and barometer, it had more items than I was initially looking for but I really liked how the design looked. I am very happy with the purchase and think this is even neater than a standalone Galileo thermometer as the other items make this a little more complete, and more noticeable when placed on a desk or table.WHAT IS IN THE BOXIncluded with this purchase is a wooden base, the Galileo thermometer, the glass storm barometer, a syringe & tube for filling the barometer, and a small amount of powered food coloring in a small zipper bag. It comes in a box made specifically for this item, secured from moving around with molded foam inserts. The way this item is packed is secure enough to protect the delicate glass during shipping.-------------DESCRIPTION & READING THE TEMPThe 11 1/2-inch Galileo thermometer detects temperatures in 4-degree increments and has a colored ball float with an attached brass plaque showing the temperature of 64, 68, 72, 76, and 80 degrees F. As the ambient air temperature changes, the temperature of the water inside the thermometer changes as well (at a slower rate) and depending upon the temperature, some of the floats will sink and other will rise due variation in density. More or less, the float that is closest to the actual temperature is the one that is floating in between the top & bottom, or if there is none floating in between, then it is the float at the bottom-most of the top stack. If all of the ball floats sit on the bottom or all float at the top, this means that the temperature of the water inside the thermometer is either colder or hotter than the range in which the thermometer reads (obviously, when you first take this out of the box it will most likely give an out of range reading depending upon the season in which you order this, and it can take quite a while for the water temperature inside the thermometer to match that of your home. Likewise, if you change your air temp it will take the thermometer much longer to catch up.)The barometer must be set up by the user to work. Using the syringe & tube, you feed colored water into the globe about half way in the fashion described in the included instructions. As the pressure changes, the volume of the air inside the top portion of the barometer changes slightly as well. This will result in the liquid being either forced higher up or lower down the spout. Since changes in ambient air temperature will strongly affect this, it's not always easy to know if you are seeing a change in pressure or a change in temperature.-------------QUALITY & MY THOUGHTSOverall I am very happy with the quality of this item. The fit & finish is very good for the price, the size is large enough to be visible but not so large than it looks silly when placed on a desk, and the wood base is attractive. While not all that accurate of a thermometer, it is accurate enough to give a general approximation and it's neat to watch (and if I need a super-accurate forecast, I just pull out my phone.)The only thing I wasn't fond of is how the base can slide easily when sitting on a smoother surface. I put on a few of those rubber no-slip feet which only took about a minute so the fix to this issue is pretty easy.So if you are looking for a Galileo thermometer, or just a desk toy or a neat product that you can give someone a gift, this is a great pick at a good price.

likely my fault but the temp only goes up to 80 degrees. so in California this will not be useful half of the year. Love the barometer - helps to track for my Fibromyalgia and chronic pain

Very good value for money. It’s fun and accurate for an old-fashioned Galileo thermometer and an old-fashioned Barometer.It looks nice and I really think that I’m going to buy a couple of for some friends in mine who have really enjoyed mine.

My son and I picked this gift for Father’s Day and my husband love it! Looks great in his office and he checks it daily. Great gift, good price.

Needless to say, both the thermometer and barometer are fragile, but the item arrived in perfect condition, thanks to the layers of different packing materials. It takes a bit of patience to thread the filling tube into the barometer, but is well worth it. The wooden stand is handsome and adds stability. I saw a cheaper item of this type on Amazon, but many of the reviews complained that it was broken when they received it. This was not the case with the reviews for this one sold by Lily's Home. This would be a great gift for home, school, or office.

I bought this because I wanted to have a decent going away gift for my IT staff that takes care of computer equipment for weather systems. I essentially have the wooden portion engraved with binary numbers with something funny and then their name, service dates and appreciation for their hard work. It's functional, memorable and not just a simple plaque. Pretty neat going away gift.

so overall its a pretty good galileo thermometer with a real wood base as i though it would of been like the mdf i think its called that or like plywood but its not and for the barometer its a pretty cool thing as it works on like pressure in the atmosphere and the thermometer works on like the air temp so all in all pretty cool

Haven't verified the temp accuracy yet but seems to be relatively close. Pressure sensor will be difficult to verify but it is interesting to watch.Found the mount area's for the globe and temp sensor wobbly and unstable so used a few drops of adhesive clear silicone on the base of each and fixed it right up

I received this as a Christmas present and we all use it in my household. It seems to be quite accurate, and we always have fore warning of an impending storm no matter the time of year. It works great
