Your cart is empty. Locks Flywheel in Place When Removing Harmonic Balancer on 6.6L Duramax Engines with Allison Automatic Transmissions.
Saves time by locking the flywheel at the transmission instead of having to remove the starter for water pump replacement. On 2500 and 3500 pickups, remove metal spring-loaded inspection plate on the bottom of the transmission. Tool should slide into opening toward engine with the top of the tool engaging the teeth of the flywheel. On 4500 and 5500 trucks, remove the rubber inspection cap on the bottom of the transmission. Insert the tool at the front of the opening to engage the flywheel and hand tighten bolt to hold tool in place. Use 36mm 12 point socket with 3/4" square drive to remove harmonic balancer bolt and re-torque on installation. 36mm 12 point socket can also be used on axle nuts.

I wasn't sure because it was so cheap, but I needed this part and had already spent enough on the water pump. Way easier and faster than the engine crank method. The flywheel lock tool and socket did not break and got the horrible job done. It made it a little easier without risking any damage. I highly recommend this if you are changing your own water pump on a duramax. This was perfect for my LBZ.

Essential tool set for anyone removing flexplate on duramax. My LBZ wouldn't hold to get enough force to break the bolts loose until this set arrived. Had a chewed up rear engine plate that the one lock did find a solution. Worth the cash,even if used only once. Thanks

This tool was exactly the tool I needed.All of the components for my LB7 worked as advertised.You will need a way to drive the socket. It is a 3/4" drive.For me (LB7) the flywheel clamp worked just fine. The trick seems to be in removing that flywheel clamp when you're done. For me this required two people. One to wiggle the crank, the other to keep a little pressure on the clamp such that it would come out once the pressure is removed.Don't forget to put your flywheel inspection cover plate back on!

Used this for my LBZ Duramax so that I could lock the engine in order to remove the harmonic balancer. Due to the heavy torque on the balancer (>300 ft lbs) I had to use a 3/4" breaker bar that was over 5 feet long. This tool held the engine from turning so that I could remove the bolt, and then held it again so that I could torque the new bolt back on when done with the other work.

If you work on trucks powered by a Duramax Diesel engine then this tool is a must have for your tool box. Makes locking the flex plate super simple for doing various repairs on the engine. This tool allows you to lock the engine in place by inserting the lock into the teeth of the flex plate through the panel under the transmission, then using the 12 point socket to remove the bolt on the crank pulley. Having this tool makes a difficult task much easier.Tip: Leave yourself a reminder note to remove the lock before attempting to start the engine!(I can verify that it fits the LB7, LLY & LBZ engines. I've never used it on anything newer but I've been told it fits all models.)

I thought I"d have to spend a lot more time getting the front crank bolt out so I could change the water pump. This and a 48" breaker bar on an 01 made short and quick work of the job.
