Synth Engine Basic Configuration
The bass synth engine includes:
- Two independent Wavetable oscillators with the 64 available wavetables.
- One sub-oscillator
- One noise generator which can create 16 different noise types.
Add even more flavor to your basslines with the built-in LFO, envelope generator, unison control, multi-mode filter, and distortion effects.
Also, your own wavetables can be imported!
Two Performance Knobs Can Be Mapped to Many Parameters at Once
Two ASSIGN knobs are provided for complex multi-parameter control.
Our “ASSIGN” knobs allow you to map many parameters to a single knob to create powerful effects which transform or mangle your sound with a single twist.
All preset patches include these “ASSIGN” knobs pre-programmed and ready for sonic exploration.
The “ASSIGN” knobs can also be parameter locked to create automated changes to multiple parameters over time.
Advanced Bass Shaping Tools
The DIMENSION knob increases the stereo width of the bass synth without losing clarity or richness.

Bass Track and Rhythm Tracks with 64-Step Sequencer
- Separate tracks for bass and rhythm keeps the sequencer organized an uncluttered.
- Sequence up to 64 steps per pattern.
- Save up to 128 patterns.
- The parameter locking function allows you to record knob changes into your patterns. This automation function can be recorded live, or programmed in step by step.
- Sub-divide the tempo down to 32nd notes for higher resolution sequencing.
- Sequence longer notes across several steps, AKA Tied Notes.

- Sequencer Effects - Three sequencer effects you can use to turn your sequence into a performance. RANDOM, which jumps steps randomly. STUTTER, which plays only the step you are pressing. DICE, which allows you to control the trigger probability of each step.
- Chain Playback - Link together multiple patterns using the CHAIN function to create longer uninterrupted sequences
- 3-way Note Input - Program notes step by step or record them in real time. Additionally, you can also input notes to specific steps while the sequencer is playing to add variation when you’re jamming or performing live.

- SWEEP: A rare feature usually only available in vintage sound chips, The SWEEP function causes the pitch to rise or fall independently for each note with adjustable speed and smoothness.
- REVERB: Reverb effects are included. The amount of reverb can be independently controlled for drums, bass, and external inputs.
- LEGATO: Switchable legato and mono modes for bendy acid basslines or consistent synthwave style attack envelopes.
- GLIDE TIME: The GLIDE time parameter controls how quickly to pitch bends as new notes are pressed.

Dedicated physical sequencer buttons allow the user to make musical changes on the fly.
Unlike other portable synthesizers, the LIVEN series has separate keyboard and sequencer buttons which makes note entry much easier.

This is the first non-Korg Volca hardware I've purchased in recent years and I'm absolutely blown away at the versatility of this little unit. The sounds are much more complex than you'd expect out of a $240 portable drum machine/bass synth unit. It does MIDI, it'll sync with a volca, or 'audio sync'. I can't stress how much the portability factors into why I love this thing. You find yourself carrying it around the house just making beats or planning arrangements. I was so impressed with the B&B that I went ahead and ordered the XFM and Lofi-12 as well. The built in speaker does a sufficient job for its size. Not overly tinny. Solid keys, and while hollow feeling, it feels sturdy where it counts. And on that note...Attention circuit benders/modders:The keyboard PCB and logic/interface boards are in a stack barely 22mm thick. Everything but the battery box is on the one panel.The case is a 'bathtub' style. Aside from the 110x50x20mm 6x AA battery box, the rest of the 300x175x35mm case is empty. You could add a USB-C charging port and lipo cell that could power the thing for days. You could add a 20W amp and better speaker. Make a patch bay on the back for circuit behind maybe? You could probably 3D print a thinner/different color bathtub case too...TL;DR - There's plenty of room for activities. If you're into that sort of thing.It's a blast to use and has a mostly straight forward workflow. 'I'm LIVEN it'... lol, had to.

Unfortunately this rhythm/bass machine looked great on paper and I was really looking forward to putting it in my music production arsenal. Long story short, it was one of the most overly complicated, confusing and frustrating pieces of gear I have EVER purchased! Sorry… Why these design engineers made it so user unfriendly I can’t imagine. I’m sorry to say I had to return it.

Once you get an idea of what you’re doing with this device. You’ll spend many enjoyable hours just fiddling with all the features, capabilities and sounds. The sound quality is amazing. As with any liven you have a good amount of space for tracks and sequences. So it is super easy to just take this and make a whole track without touching another device.

This machine is the most convoluted, disorganized, difficult to play drum machine I’ve ever come across. Don’t bother with the online only instruction manual it’s useless in providing any sort of guidance on how to operate the 9 billion settings and parameters. It’s literally going to take me a couple of months to figure out how to create a beat on this thing, not to mention the build of this machine feels like a fisher-price toy and upon turning it on and touching the confusing buttons I’ve already noticed the paint coming off the rubber buttons. I’ve had it two days! If you want a rubick’s cube of a fisher-price level beat machine this is right up your alley, if not stick to the pros like Roland, Moog, or Korg.

After watching various videos how to use,store,program I was still baffled...I own various synths but this was not very good.I tried for about 4/5 hours and gave up..and returned.If you want something like this you may be better getting a Roland jd-xi a lot more easier to sequence and better sounds.
