After being woke up in the middle of the night with a blade being thrown off my ceiling fan I decide it was finally time to upgrade. We didn't want a fan that had chains hanging down making noise and we also don't care for ceiling fan remotes as they get lost and are never where you want them.That is why we purchased Lutron Diva 3-Speed Fan Control, Single-Pole/3-Way, DVFSQ-F-BL, Black. It is the same quality and finish as you would expect with any Lutron switch.The ceiling fan in our house was wired with two switches, one for the light and another for the fan. This switch now allows us to not only turn the fan on and off, but it also lets us control the speed of the fan as well without having to pull those chains to find the speed we want. With the Lutron switch you set the slider on the side to low, medium, or high then flip the switch.After using this ceiling fan switch for a week or two we bought another one for our living room. Great solution if you like using a switch and don't want a remote.

This fan control switch was installed to replace a simple on/off toggle switch. The fan itself as installed to be controlled solely by a wireless remote control. We installed the switch in anticipation of having a new ceiling fan installed in a few months but installed the switch now because we were upgrading a 4-gang box from toggle switches to paddle switches and this one matched the others.Installation took less than 5 minutes, including adjusting the switch to be flush with the switch plate. It is one of Lutron's "quiet" switches, which means there is no audible snap when you switch it on or off. The fan speed is controlled by a small slider next to the paddle ... identical to Lutron's dimmers except it is a 3-position switch rather than infinite range. Realistically, once a person chooses a preferred fan speed in the future they will likely only need to turn the power on and off, so the smallness of the slider is not a problem.We discovered an immediate and unusual benefit to using this fan control instead of the wireless remote. Similar to another style of Lutron fan control we recently installed in another room, this switch gives us a different range of speeds, in other words it overrides the wireless remote to give us a slow speed that is slower, a medium speed that is slightly faster than medium on the remote, and a fast speed that is faster than we have had before. These results are identical to the fan control in the other room.For ease of installation, attractiveness and value for price this fan control earns 5-stars.

Ive used many Lutron dimmers over the years and they are good. However, I chose a 1 star rating to warn other buyers that this dimmer WILL NOT WORK on a 4 way circuit. The manufacturer chose not to follow the conventional industry wiring standard for 3 way or 4 way circuits and instead went with something different. The dimmer will work in a 3 way circuit setting but not in a 4 way.

The Fan control replaced a previous one in a 3 gang unit box which was swapped out for a better colour match. Initial install on-off test worked but after replacing plate cover the fan control wouldn’t completely stop the fan blade from spinning. I’m not an electrician so it might be caused by a poor connection or some wonderful play of “electromagnetic induction†between the wires. Anyway, in an effort to solve the issue, I re-exposed the wires for the 3 switches in the box, retightened each connection and put it all back together.Voila! It all works and continues to do so a couple of weeks in. The 3 blade speed levels work for us so everyone’s happy! Unit was pricy at $45 with taxes in so the high cost reflects my only reason for the 4 star rating.
