My daughter had a lot of fun using this microscope and it was a good complement to what she was learning at school. The microscope has a 2 inch screen with adjustable magnification which is great for examining leaves, twigs, bark, rocks, and more. The LED screen is bright enough to see the images clearly and it has good battery life. The size of the microscope was also perfect for her hands. The only minor issue with this microscope was that we initially had to figure out how to change the menu from Chinese to English, but once we figured that out we've had no further issues. The picture quality is surprisingly good and it does have an option to save pictures. My favorite part about this microscope is that it's helped spark an interest in science with my daughter which is a real plus.

Not sure how good this would be for kids, but if you get it set up for them and explain the important controls, it might work well.I see there is some confusion as to the magnification level. At the lowest magnification setting (1X), you get a base Optic magnification of 5X according to my crude measurements of a letter "M" that is 2 mm on paper and 10 mm on the screen display. You can then step the magnifaction up electronically up to 8X, which multiplied by the 5X gives an overall max magnification of 40X. Which is actually a good level of magnification for such a device. I think they might be able to claim a bit more magnification if you take a photo or short video onto the SD card (included), then display that onto a normal sized computer monitor, which will of course be around 10-20 times larger than the little display screen on the unit. So a claim of 100X max is I think supportable by that logic. The unit turns on and when you hit menu, it is all chinese! And my philosophy has always been that reading the instructions is always the last resort. :) So with a little trial and error, opened up each line item until I got to one that said English. I hit that and it was in English. Then I had to figure how to turn the light on. I figured there would be a button with a lightbulb or something. Nope. Had to read the manual to solve that mystery. A long press on the + button ramps the LED lights up. And a long press on the - button ramps them back down.Short press the + and minus to change the electronic zoom from 1X to 8X.Focus is simple with the rotating thing. So everything works! I would suggest a separate button for the light, (or a label showing the + is also the light, +light/long press, +mag/short press) ) but once you figure it out, not an issue. The included SD card is a nice touch. It gives a lot of capability in something self contained, compact and weighing only a few ounces.Stamp and coin collectors etc might also be interested in these for use when travelling. There is also a threaded tripod mount on the side of it. Not sure why or when that would be used, but worth a mention.Edit: Had to come back and add a star. I find I am using this thing all the time to read fine print on things and the fact that it supplies its own light makes this a very useful tool. Once you start using it, the buttons are simple to use. And the display means that you don't have to hunch over the thing to use it.

This telescope is a cool concept. We were excited to try it out while beachcombing for cool rocks. We had a lot of issues though as the battery will not hold a charge. It can only work plugged into a wall. Aside from that defect, it is a neat toy with zoom in and out buttons, options to record or take pictures, and a manual lens focus on the outside. The strap is fun and makes it easy to carry. It works about as well as you'd expect from a kids’ toy. I'd rate it higher except the battery does not work properly.

This is a great little microscope for young ones to begin exploring the world around them. Nicely constructed and good price.

This was interesting for my autistic son. He played with it for hours and hours and loved the idea he could see "inside" things.

I had a lot of hope for this little microscope. While it isn't a completely wasted purchase it would suit younger explorers - 5-10yo or just for funsies looking at things close up.This is a fun toy to get younger peeps interested in exploring, science and promote imagination. Help them to look at bugs, written/typed images, pet hair.... Anything!Included are the microscope, cute lanyard, micro-SD card (you will need an adapter to transfer pics to your device), charging cable and easy to follow instructions. The focus wheel works well as do the zoom in and out features. There are 3 modes: microscope, telescope or camera mode. The description of the product is not quite accurate when it comes to magnification possibilities; at most I would say up to 10X but certainly not 100X. There is also a strange rattle from within and I'm afraid to take it apart or shake it more to see what happens. As an adult, yes, this product has its shortcomings but as a kid it is still exciting seeing the microcosm. It is worth it to see the excitement and joy on the faces of your little ones as they explore the smaller world around us =]

This has to be a scam. First you notice the rattling from inside because the internals are just loose in the case. Then you notice magnification only goes to 8x when they advertise 100x. Then you notice everything is in Chinese. With some guessing you can turn it to English. But if you hit the reset button it'll be back in Chinese. Even in English you will see there's no way to get that promised 100x magnification. Avoid this item.
