Little and helpful, but not general use helping hands. Works great for solder two wires together which I do a lot. Deducted one star because I bought basically the same thing but in two separable halves so you can adjust spacing. It was more expensive though.

As others have mentioned the magnets are not super strong. However it works fine for me. My workbench is made of steel, it has an ESD mat that is about 1/16" thick. I was able to lap solder two wires easily. I had to solder 5 pairs. The magnets held fine.While I agree if one wants to solder #14 wires this may not be the best tool, but for me it worked great.I like the compact size. I don't need a contraption with a base, and don't to store one. This is handy easy to use (by that I mean, I reach into my bench drawer and grab it.

An honest marketer would sell this product without the magnet, and clearly label it BYOM (magnets).The photo shows shiny magnet, but that is deceptive. It is not neodymium or anything strong. My cheap ferrite (the classic dark matte gray stuff) is much stronger than the magnets in this product. If I place these ferrite magnets between this product and my steel bench top, and give lateral force to these clips, this product breaks apart from the other magnet. The cheap old magnet doesn't move a thing. The magnets in this product is that weak.Now, I'm debating whether to return this thing and make a similar jig with my magnets, or simply glue my magnets underside of this thing. I think you will think about the same.
