I purchased two of them. The magnet is really strong. I put two of them side by side and was able to sew a strap in no time at all, and the seams were perfect.

I needed this to help sew 1/4” seams. Problem was that in order to get it that close to the needle… the pressure foot nicks it during the stitches. Has a VERY STRONG magnet to hold it in place. It would work well for 1/2” or 5:8” seam allowance

This item stays in place with an extremely strong magnet. I can now sew a straight seam.

I do a fair amount of sewing, not much clothes, except repairing or altering, but I’ve made curtains, cushion covers, pillow covers, etc. I was looking for something to act as a “bumper” for my fabric to butt against to keep my seams nice and straight. This is especially important on items which have long sections of seams such as curtains, for example.I was using a piece of black tape to distinguish an easier-to-see line to hold the fabric up against. There’s a lot of margin for error, though, because it requires real intense scrutiny and the fabric can still move too much when stitching at a fast pace.I wanted it to have a strong magnet (or other manner) to connect it to the machine without it scooting or moving if bumped by my hands.I tried another magnetic type of similar device but that device was more about holding the fabric together than acting as a bumper. It was quite a bit larger, as well. This was finally what I needed. It’s plastic but it has a very strong magnet that attaches to the metal sole plate of my machine in just the perfect area. It attaches firmly to either side of the sole plate. It performs exactly as I hoped. It has some tiny measurement marks pressed into the plastic, if that is a need for you. It’s a great price, too, because you get 2! That was a real plus, for me, because I have two sewing machines. I put one with each machine, connecting it to the steel casing of the machine so it’s there at my finger-tips.

I've never really had issues with sewing straight lines at any width, but as my eyesight isn't as good as it was when I was younger, I thought I'd give these a try. The magnet is very strong, but you can still easily bump it out of alignment with your hand while sewing. I think that seam guide tape works better, mainly because you can use it for a longer length view of the sewing lines than these little guys. I've been sewing for 52 years, and I've sewn just about everything that can be sewn during that time span.
