I've been learning to do woodworking projects most of my adult life, and while I may not be an expert, I do know my way around tools. Having used Snappy Tapered Plug Cutters in the past, when I needed a larger cutter for a large hole that was drilled into an oak floor, this was the obvious choice. I used it to cut a plug from a 3/4" red oak floor plank, after cleaning the original hole with a 1" forstner bit. As the name implies, the plugs are tapered, ever so slightly, which means that the diameter grows from the bottom to the top, allowing a nice snug fit. I cut my plug, glued it into the hole, and used a flush cut saw to remove the excess, and then lightly sanded the area, which is being refinished. The plug cuttter worked perfectly, the piece came out cleanly, no burning, and was easy to remove from the bit when it cut through the stock.

I cut two plugs from soft wood, Eastern White Cedar. I used my drill press, set on the lowest speed, 250 rpm. I would not try to use this without a drill press, as other reviews have suggested. Also, I suspect this would struggle with / burn hardwoods like oak. I used my Wonder Slick Stick on the cutter bit to reduce friction, which made a big difference. (Side note, that Wonder Slick Stick is an excellent product, greatly reduces friction on cutting tools.) So, in summary: use a drill press at a very slow rpm, soft wood, feed the bit down very slowly, and use the Wonder Slick Stick, and you'll be happy. A good value. Also, if cutting to its full depth, it leaves a very nice taper on the cut plug.

The instructions say no faster than 500rpm for this bit. My drill press only goes down to 650rpm and it works flawlessly. At first I forgot to change my drill press and used it at 1000rpm and it burnt the crap out of the wood I was drilling. Just remember to lower your drill speed first and you'll get great results.

Not tapered enough, so it doesn't get tight with glue to stay flat .looking for a better option.

Precisely 1", great plug cutter. Plugs fit exact 1" hole from Forstner Bit in a project I am building. The only issue I found was that the outside of the plug cutter is a little rougher than what I had wanted, but that isn't where it matters, so not as big of a deal.

My only complaint is I had to use a 7/8 drill bit 1in had to much slop.

I had a job that I needed a bunch of 1" White oak plugs for. Unfortunately time got away from me and I did not have an opportunity to get my plug cutter sharpened. Since Amazon could have this to my house next day, I thought I dodged a bullet. However, after burning our way through 6 plugs, we pulled it out of the drill press and put in what I considered to be my dull plug cutter and proceeded to cut the 50 plugs we needed. If I could have gave this thing negative stars I would have. Do not waste your money!

It works fine but it overheat easily. It is rated to 500 RPM and I'm using 360 RPM and still it overheat. It is a big cutter!
