This charger (DC18SD) is 2x to 3x slower than my other chargers (like the DC18RC), but it has some benefits, probably better for your batteries, quieter (no fan), more energy efficient and maybe better if using in a car/van and running it off a smaller power inverter. See my detailed review on youtube titled "Makita Battery Chargers: DC18RC vs DC18SD Comparison" and "Makita Charger Run on Car Battery with 200w Inverter". Coupled with a cheap power inverter, it could be a cheaper and more flexible alternative to the much more expensive Makita DC18SE car charger.

The battery does not keep the charge for very long, probably not more than 5 to 8 minutes. So it’s good to have more than one charged battery on hand.

Mikita batteries cost more but well worth it, they are second to none.

I have many Makita tools, batteries and chargers and have always been pleased. This time is different. The blower and the batteries work great. The problem is the charger. After reviving the order and making sure everything was ok, I plugged in one of the batteries and an hour later came back to plug the other battery in but the charger was still blinking red. Thinking the charger or the battery may be bad, I plugged the new batteries in my dual charger. And an older battery, that needed charging in the new charger. In less then an hour the 2 new batteries were fully charged from my older charger but the new charger with the old battery was still blinking red. I left it plugged in over night and the next morning it had fully charged the battery. Had this been my first experience with makita, I would have never purchased another makita brand. I’m sure amazon would exchange it, but as of now I just don’t have the time to send it back
