Drywall knife slides cleanly over it. Cleans well, handle is soft and feels durable. Has a hollow bottom for mounting. Overall I like it, will be buying a larger model at some point.

I needed a hawk to do some stucko on my wall and this hawk did a great job. It's not what professionals use but it will do the job especially if it's a small home project you're working on. There's really no reason to purchase some expensive tool which you end up using only a few times. If you're a pro then this isn't the tool you need anyways but for us DIY guys it's perfect for the price.

I should have got this years ago, it's so much nicer to mud with this. Even for a diy'er.

Works good. I did add some lock-tight to the handle so it does not come loose.

I am a handyman and have installed wallboard in several rooms over the years. I would rate myself as a B+ or B wall boarder. I watched a video on spackling wall board, and they recommended using a hawk and trowel, so I would this hawk and a Marshalltown finishing trowel. I can't believe how much easier spackling is with these two tools and how I am now an A or A- Spackler. The hawk allows you to carry the spackle to the joint you are working on, and you do not have to return to the bucket multiple times to refill the blade. The hawk also provides and edge to clean off your trowel as you work. The trowel provides a much different angle of approach than a normal spackle knife. With a normal spackle knife, you are spreading the spackle 5-6 inches after your hand, and it is a little harder to judge the appropriate amount of pressure to apply to the spackle knife. With a trowel, the point of contact is just 1-2 behind your hand, so your hand is much more sensitive to the amount of pressure you are applying. An example would be spreading soft margarine on a piece of toast. As you spread it, it is easy to control the pressure on the knife. Now imagine spreading the margarine with a putty knife that is five inches behind your hand.Give the hawk and trowel a try. You will be happy you did.

I've been using a big aluminium hawk for the last 5 years, which finally wore out on me.I switched to this one 6 months ago.I wish I had switched much sooner.Light weight, comfortable handle, so much easier to clean. My one recommendation: If you have a trowel bigger than 12", you may wish to go for a hawk larger than 12".
