I use this metronome EVERY DAY. I LOVE IT. The best parts of it are: 1. it keeps perfect time, 2. the giant dial allows me to very quickly change the tempo, 3. it has volume control!, 4. it supports simple and complex times with different tone for the downbeats, and 5. the tone is very pleasant and even at medium-low volume i can still hear the metronome over the playing of my classical guitar. There is something unique about the tone that allows the sound to be heard over my playing even though the volume doesn't seem that high.I am SO THANKFUL that I found this metronome. I use it every single day to practice classical guitar and piano. Also important note, I had originally bought the Seiko metronome that looks very similar in design to this one with the giant dial, but I discovered a MAJOR DEFECT: It doesn't keep time! It's not that it's skipping beats, but that the time is OFF for some of the beats, delayed slightly. For about a week I had thought it was just in my head, then I ran the Seiko metronome against my iPhone metronome app and confirmed that it was missing beats. I also took video of this if anyone cares to see it. Seiko has a BIG problem on it's hands. ...Now, the Matrix Metronome, I tested it the same way and it keeps PERFECT time. Like a metronome should. Very happy to have the Matrix 600, I think it is essentially for any serious musician that needs a quality metronome for daily use.

I have several fancy tuner/metronome combos but this my go to because it's big, loud, fairly easy to adjust and doesn't get lost on the music stand.

The function of this metronome is excellent. Volume is easily adjusted from silent all the way up to quite loud, much louder than my last metronome. (Reviews stating there is no volume control are incorrect -- there definitely is one on the side, and I use it all the time.) I also like that the sound is a mechanical-sounding "click" rather than a beep.I didn't give it 5 stars because it is very cheaply made. The slide buttons feel loose and like something out of a cereal box. They aren't even elevated above the surrounding case, which makes sliding them a take a little extra work. The wire stand broke within a few weeks. The dial broke off the first time I dropped it, but fortunately I glued it back on with no problem. I have been much more cautious with it since.It could be a lot better -- but overall I would buy it again because it's still doing a great job ticking.UPDATE: I've had this almost eight years, and despite having to re-glue the dial several times, this rickety plastic thing is still working great! The cheap slide-switches I mentioned in my original post haven't broken yet despite years of use. I now own several other metronomes, but to my ear this one still has the best "click" sound.

There is a love/hate relationship with the metronome, but it is a valuable tool for all musicians, and music students.There are several advantages to this model. 1. It is a metronome and clicks the pulse for you. 2. It can also be set to play a tone on the first beat of 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, note groupings to match meters in music. 3. You can control the volume to be less noticeable, or to be so loud you cannot ignore it, or to use with an ensemble to keep everyone together until familiar with the music. 4. There is a light pattern at the top that mimics an old-fashioned wind-up metronome. 5. Perhaps most helpful to me is the analog aspect: there is a round dial for selecting the sbox!peed-much faster than digital models. 6. There is a builtin equal temperament tuner for a few octaves All in 1

Good sound and functionality. I really only care about one pitch (e.g. A 440) for tuning, but it is nice to have more than one tuning pitch. My main complaint is that it frequently stops working when I am selecting between off/metro/sound. I have to to turn it off and on a few times to get it working again. It is really annoying, especially when you are in the middle of practicing and you have to stop and fiddle with the metronome to get it to work.

This is my second Matrix, as I already have the 500. However, I have guitars around the house and believe that practicing with a metronome is the only "honest" way to practice. If you're debating the two models, the 600 is worth the extra money due to the adjustable downbeat feature alone, as 1/8th, 1/16th, triplets etc. at any tempo can be clearly tracked with the augmented pitches for downbeats. As with the 500 model, this metronome is LOUD enough when you need it to be with amp practice, and the volume is adjustable so that if you're playing an acoustic softly it will not drown out the instrument. Additionally, it does come with an earpiece if you want it. The tuner is okay if you're in a pinch, but I've found no use for the LED since my eyes are usually fixed on sheet music. The only feature I wish that it did have, but doesn't, would be a belt clip (or Bluetooth connectivity, perhaps down the road) so that one would have mobility when using the earpiece.

This is a great little unit from Matrix and it does what it is supposed to do. It goes from 40 bpm to 216 bpm. One note—it has preset rhythm numbers (60, 63, 66, 69, 72, etc.) so if you are trying to get a specific number like 70 or 90, it won’t do that. But for practice purposes, 88 or 92 is close enough to 90. You will not know the difference! I also like the fact that it has a volume control. It comes with an earphone if one so desires such a feature. Overall, it’s a great little unit at a great price and I highly recommend it.
