I bought an entry-level Newtonian scope that came with a crappy little plastic finderscope mount. It didn't have holes, it had slots. And the slots were not exactly the size of the mounting bolts on the scope, and when I'd tighten it down, the plastic would flex and it would slip and slide all over the place and was never the same twice. So I measured the distance between the holes on my telescope (the finder mounting bolts) and bought a standard-size dovetail base with matching screw holes, and it does not move. Then I went looking for a finderscope mount, and I settled on this one.Bottom line: major upgrade from the plastic mount I was struggling with. Details follow. The cons: Everything arrived loose and wobbly. Tightened it all up with the allen key. The thumbscrews are not drilled straight, so they kind of jut out at random angles, which gives an overall sloppy appearance. But it doesn't seem to affect functionality. Also, the dovetail base is about 5mm narrower than a standard mount. But it still works if the thumbscrew on your mount is long enough (mine was). The pros: I really like the plastic tips on the thumbscrews – they grip the barrel of the scope really well without digging into it. Once you tighten everything up, the metal construction makes this mount really stable. And even though the dovetail base is narrow, it is still way more stable than the plastic scope mount that came with my entry-level telescope. Now, when I reassemble my telescope after storing it, I don't have to readjust the finder scope. I just slip it into the dovetail base and tighten the screw. It's always bang on.To sum up, go for it. This eliminates a whole lot of frustration for not a whole lot of money. If you're actually using your scope to explore the night sky (as opposed to a decor piece to make you seem more interesting), the less-than-precision appearance won't matter. It's dark out. And you're mostly looking through it, not at it.

The circular rings are drilled/tapped with very poor accuracy and despite the vinyl tips on the screws, detailed adjustment of my finder scope is difficult. Also, the alignment screws are vastly too long as they are long enough to touch in the middle despite no finder scope or laser pointer ever being less than 4mm diameter. I installed my own shorter M5 screws with thinner knobs to at least minimize the excess stick out but the poor accuracy of the drilled/tapped rings still made alignment nearly impossible. I really wanted to like this finder bracket, but just can't.

I just received and started using this bracket. I would prefer a bracket that holds the pointer with a compression ring as a good telescope eyepiece holder does, but could find none. As a stand-in, the Maxmartt Laser Pointer Bracket appears to be a good substitute. I'll know for sure in the next few weeks of use as to whether the brackets holds the pointer properly aimed, or not. But over the last few days since receiving it, it's working well so far.

The screws were a little sloppy when threaded into the bracket. If they cut the ring screw threads more precisely to match the screws it would be much more accurate and solid. It works for my needs but the quality could have easily been a whole lot better.
