These lights work great, however they are not quite as bright as I expected them to be

This set replaced an identical item from the same manufacturer that I had bought more then 12 years ago. I hope this one lasts the same. I’ve used these lights on my 18 foot trailer and they don reach all the way back. It does come with an extra pigtail and an additional 12+ feet of wire. Great product and works great

APPLICATIONI installed these lights on a Valley Industries tow hitch cargo basket, for use on my 2007 Jeep Wrangler Sahara with factory tow package and aftermarket Mopar Offroad Steel Bumper (it’s old, and different from the one they now sell under that moniker). I am the original owner of this vehicle, which has about 120,000 miles on it.FIRST IMPRESSIONSLights present exactly as described. They seem to be of reasonable quality and the magnet seems strong. The brightness of the lights seems good. The wiring provided seems adequate to the purpose. They did cheap out a bit by requiring wiring to go from one light to another, rather than just mirroring the wiring to both lights. This may have an adverse effect on some applications.RELATED ITEMSI am using this receiver hitch with the following related items:Valley Industries Hitch cargo basket similar to: https://a.co/d/j7Iz3cuYakima EXO Top Shelf (37 lbs): https://a.co/d/1bVlGhmYakima EXO SwingBase (64 lbs): https://a.co/d/8VxoDC7MODIFICATIONSBefore trying to install these lights, I made a few modifications to suit my purposes.First, I modified each light to have a “pig tail†with a standard 4-way flat trailer connector on it. This way, the lights are easily and completely removable from whatever I want to put them on, and I don’t need wires running from one light to another. This was all important because I planned to use them on a hitch cargo rack, which is removable and a lot smaller than a trailer. I can easily take the lights off before removing the rack, and also use them on something else needed. The modification was easy to do – just remove the two screws on the bottom of the light to reveal the wiring, clip the wires and crimp on a pig tail. I should this in a photo. Then all you have to two is run the wiring to where you plan to put the lights, with a matching 4-way flat connector on the end, and connect them. I used the wiring they give you with the lights for that purpose.Second, because of all the review stating the magnets are not too strong and people have issues with the lights coming off while going down the road, I wanted some “fall protectionâ€. So I installed an eyebolt in each light. It’s held on with a nylock lock nut, and the entire bolt can spin freely without it coming off. Using a heavy duty zip tie, I can secure the light to the cargo rack. If the light comes off, it will just hang in the air, rather than hitting the road and getting all busted up. I show how this works in one of my photos.INSTRUCTIONSI didn’t use the instructions, as I have installed lights many times and know what I’m doing. I can’t review these instructions for that reason.MY PERSONAL INSTALL EXPERIENCEThis was an easy install, despite my additional modifications to the lights. I decided to install the lights “horizontally†rather than “verticallyâ€. This meant that the magnets would have to work even harder, since they are subject to sheer forces from bouncing around and such. That doesn’t happen in a vertical installation, where the magnets are “face down†on some surface and supported by that surface. I was very pleased with my install design choice of allowing me to remove the lights easily, without worrying about the wiring. Just disconnect the 4-way flat at each light, cut the zip ties I added for additional security, and off they go. Easy peasy.PERFORMANCE REVIEWAfter all that work, I was ready to try it out on my road trip! It was about 285 miles total. I was not disappointed. Because of all the reviews indicating lights fall off, I was extra paranoid. I checked on the lights often. I had no issues. I went over big speed bumps, nasty rough Pennsylvania roads and even bumpy and rough Forest Service trails, all with no issues. At all! I mean, not even one millimeter! I wonder if the people complaining about the lights falling off were actually sticking them to plastic instead of metal. I DO show a light hanging in the air from the zip tie in one photo. It didn’t come off by itself, I just wanted to show the “zip tie feature†I came up with. As it turns out, in the configuration I was using, it IS easy to knock the light off by running into it while walking around the vehicle. I did this a number of times while loading the cargo rack. The zip tie keeps it from hitting the ground. So I would recommend doing this even though I had no issues with the lights coming off while actually driving around.OVERALLNo complaints. I’m glad I bought them. No issues with the lights coming off while driving, the magnets worked great.

The lights themselves work fine so far. The magnets are not very strong however. If they are in a spot where the wind cannot blow on them, they seem to stay on fine, but if you have to have them up where the air can get to them, as soon as you hit 60mph, they will blow off. I had to duct tape them down. For the price, they are handy to have around and got me out of a jam. I had to tape them down however.

I used this on the back of a car while pulling it with a uhaul across the country. It worked great and lasted the entire journey. Be sure to secure the wires as they will rub on the car, causing light scratches that will need to be buffed out. They do what they are made to do and worth the money after one trip even.

Game changer. The answer to the constant fussy trailer lights problem we were always dealing with. So easy to just plunk these on, secure them with zip ties (don’t trust the magnets alone) and go.
