This came with no instructions or suggestions either on or inside the box.Bought two lean top round steaks - both designated as for "marinating or braising" to test this. The first one, I punctured side-to-side, then top to bottom, flipped it over an did the same on the second side. Cooked it and was disappointed - chewable, but still tough.The second one I attacked mercilessly - went at both sides with a "death by a thousand cuts" attitude.Cooked it for about half the usual time, and it was tender and delicious!Cleaning it to my satisfaction isn't really quick. I rinse it under hot running water, then CAREFULLY pull back the blade guard - the blades are very sharp, and the first time I did that I punctured two fingers - and rinse it again. Then I fill a small sauce pan with water and bleach, as a sanitizer, to the level of the handle, so the entire length of the blades are submerged and let it soak for at least ten minutes. Then rinse thoroughly and let air dry.

I have had one of these purchased over 15 years ago that is becoming rusted along the edge that is a DIFFERENT BRAND AND LOWER QUALITY THAN THE ONE I OURCHASED FROM AMAZON.THIS UNIT: This unit is made of a much harder shell and the teeth are heavier also. The steel looks seems to be heavier and of a higher quality.The heavier weight makes it easier to use and push down to tenderize the meat. It is spring loaded so that when you push down on the MT ( meat tenderizer) it goes down on the meat making it tender with small holes. Depending on the cut of meat you are able to break down the muscle tissue and let marinates enter the muscle meat.THis PRODUCTS WORKS better than any hand held hammer style tenderize. It takes less energy to us it.With this product I am able to take a poor cut of meat that costs LESS and turn it into "steak!" It is a real budget changer!IF, it is used more times it makes the steak like cubed steak or chicken cutlets.It works great to make any kind of meat sandwich so that the sandwich is easy to "bite" into small pieces to eat.IF you like chicken nuggets and want a higher quality of meat WITHOUT additional sometimes dangerous additives. This will work well when you have children and want meats tender so they have less of a chance to choke.I purchased this because I want to make Deli meats. Some deli meats are tough. I plan on treating the meats I am using to make Deli- meats to allow the "cures"to completely get into the meats which will protect me from bacteria into the meats to make it safer.I have and buy many " kitchen speciality tools" This product is NOT a tool that will NOT be used. I use it often for a variety of uses as listed above.The price on this is VERY reasonable making it affordable. Originally, I paid $25. From a TV ad. This is more reasonably priced, is higher quality, and a nice weight.I consider this a MUST buy! The Stainless steel is a higher quality and I am sure it will last a life time. The one I purchased from a TV ad is rusting along the base. I am sure that this will not rust.Don't be afraid to purchase this. I would give it a 10 if I could have!

Sure is sharp and I like that it has a nice cover to store it in so it don't get messed up in the kitchen gadget drawer . Nice and very sharp . It will be wonderful on some of the tougher cuts of meat .
