From the Manufacturer

All of our clarinets are tested at our factory and inspected again by skilled technicians at our Los Angeles distribution center prior to shipping. Please read the clarinet owner's manual carefully to assembled and tuned the clarinet properly.

Clarinet Owner's Manual

It is important to disassemble and thoroughly clean the clarinet after playing then stored in its case. Tips: Use a small amount of cork grease on joints to help ease assembly of the clarinet and wipe off excess grease. Rinse mouth after eating / drinking prior to playing. Always store the clarinet in its case when not in use to prevent damage. Avoid direct and extended exposure to: sunlight, rain, heaters, air conditioners. It is recommended to bring the clarinet to a skilled technician at least once a year to be serviced.

Getting Started

We recommend first time players to seek assistance from an instructor. If an instructor is not available, follow these steps below. Remove the clarinet from the case by lifting it from the edges. Never grab the clarinet by its keys.

Compact Clarinet Stand
Portable Compact Clarinet Stand

The compact clarinet stand is stored inside the clarinet bell. Assembling Instructions: 1. Unscrew cap at the bottom of the stand. 2. Extend the legs. 3. Screw cap back on with the legs extended.

Mouthpiece
Attaching the mouthpiece

6. Attaching the reed: a) Moisten the thin end of the reed in mouth or in cup of water. b) Remove the ligature from the mouthpiece and then position the reed on the mouthpiece so that the tip of the mouthpiece is seen just over the end of the reed. c) While holding the reed in place, slide the ligature over the reed and mouthpiece, adjust to fit, and tighten the ligature screws.

Large ring key
Holding the Clarinet

1. Lubricate all tenon-corks on the mouthpiece, upper and lower joints with cork-grease (included with package). Make sure to apply an even coat of grease. 2. In a twisting motion, gently attach the barrel to the upper joint of the clarinet. 3. In a twisting motion, gently attach the bell to the lower joint of the clarinet. 4. In a gentle twisting motion, connect the upper joint to the lower joint while gently pressing the large ring key to bring the upper bridge key up. (See photo on the left of the ring key on the upper joint). Using this method will prevent damaging the keys.

Tuning

Pitch is affected by temperature, so warm up the clarinet before playing by blowing air through it. Use a chromatic tuner or piano can help tune the clarinet. The tuning pitches for the clarinet are C and G. Play a C and G on the piano or find it on the tuner. To tune, pull barrel slightly away from the body. The length of the barrel to the body depends on individual preference and method of playing. To further adjust the intonation of the clarinet, put out on the upper and lower joints.

Upper joint bridge above the lower joint bridge
Joining the Upper and Lower Bridge Joints

5. The lower joint bridge key will slide under the upper joint bridge key. Be careful, as careless assembly can cause damage to the bridge keys. Align the upper joint bridge key on top of the lower joint bridge key. The keys of the upper and lower joints will be aligned as well. (See image on the left)

Maintenance

REED: Remove the reed from the mouthpiece by loosening the ligature and sliding it off. Gently dry the reed with a clean cloth and place it in a reed holder. CLEANING THE INTERIOR: After playing always insert the cleaning swab into the clarinet to remove moisture. After each use rub the outside of the mouthpiece with a soft cloth then scrub the inside of the mouthpiece with a mouthpiece brush. Use lukewarm water and mild soap. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a soft cloth. CLEANING THE PADS: Dry the pads by inserting cleaning pad paper between the pad and the tone hole. Lightly press the key down and carefully pulling the paper away. CLEANING THE EXTERIOR: After each use, rub on outside of the clarinet with a polishing cloth to remove particles and fingerprints. use a key brush once a week to remove dust or lint that accumulates around post and springs and under key rods. Use a pipe cleaner on hard to reach areas. Tenons tend to collect moisture, especially at the upper and lower joints. Remove all moisture from tenons cork with gauze. Apply small amounts of cork grease on neck cork to maintain the quality of the cork and to make mouthpiece assembly easy. Remember to always remove the mouthpiece when not in use.

This was a gift for my daughter who started playing in her school band recently. The clarinet that I rented from the school was old and falling apart... literally. The keys kept falling out and I had to keep screwing them back in, and one key was locking underneath the one in front of it and even the band teacher couldn't fix the problem. It also had a terrible amount of air leakage. This Mendini B Flat clarinet was affordable and seemed suitable for a beginner. For the price, well under a hundred, I figured I wouldn't have a problem if she decided to not continue after this year. There is minimal air leakage, much better than the school's clarinet. The keys are secure and it plays much louder with much better sound than the school's clarinet.I purchased the white clarinet. To give you an idea of the color, it is much more of an antique white which means it has a very yellow cast to the color. It is beautiful, don't get me wrong, but when I ordered it I really thought it would be a striking white color rather than a linen white or antique white color.I am still giving this five stars because for the price you really can't expect anything better than what you are getting. If my daughter continues to play over the next few years I will then be willing to spend a couple of thousand dollars for a better clarinet, but for the beginner that she is, this is a wonderful clarinet for her to get started with.

I have played the clarinet for 9 years. I had a yamaha ebonite clarinet and a wooden clarinet valued over a thousand each. I held first chair for most of my musical career. I sadly sold them both when I got to college because I was pretty broke. 5 yrs later I decided to get back into music so I bought this clarinet. It had such a great value so I gave it a shot. When it arrived I greased it up and all the joints fit together pretty easily for first time set up. It is expertly crafted and looks better than my pricey yamaha! I warmed up and I played a few scales in 2 octaves and wow! It sounds just like my yamaha (granted I have to work on my embrochure, its been years). It has so many accesories too! Like wow. Grease, stand, very sturdy case, cleaning rag, 10 reeds 2.5 strength and gloves. Seriously hit the jackpot with clarinet. I would not say its a professional clarinet sound quality wise (wood is always better) but it is definitely worth more than I paid for it in my opinion.

I play clarinet for a community band and for church. This clarinet has good tone and seems to have good playability. The keys seem to be "thin" and I am hoping they do not bend with normal use, but this is yet to be seen. I used my own reed and all the notes from low to high seem to be good. The reeds that came with this clarinet are more suited for a beginner or somebody that does not play often. The case is very nice. A stand is also included and it does work well for a low quality stand, but the stand is padded as not to mar the instrument. Every thing is functional and this would make a good instrument for somebody that does not want to invest a whole lot of money. It does have a 1 Year Warranty Against Manufacturer's Defects and also comes with cork grease, cleaning cloth, a pair of gloves and a practice booklet for beginners. I believe this is a excellent deal. What else could you expect for about $100?

First of all, this item is a glorified toy. It is possible you may get one you might be able to use as a band instrument...if so, consider yourself lucky. It is the same as paying only $100 for a new car. Just what kind of car would you expect? I played Clarinet for 14 years in various types of bands from dance to classical. If you want a serious instrument -- you will need to pay at least several hundred dollars from a reliable dealer. I bought this instrument to play just for fun. The Clarinet I have is a full note off scale -- but (like my dulcimer) it is in-tune with itself. So if I would want to play with someone else I could easily transpose the music. I do not know if this is typical of this model or not.If you purchase this clarinet you should do the following:1. Throw the reeds away - they are worse than useless. Get some Rico Reeds. Even if you could use the reeds --- 2 1/2 is too hard for a beginner, anyway. If you want the instrument to sound even better - go get a new barrel and mouthpiece. The only thing the reeds that came with the clarinet can be used for is shims.2. Check all the keys and pads. Make sure they are secure and work properly. They should seal (and release) the holes and the keys should move smoothly.3. Lubricate the corks - get an even layer on each cork and do not be stingy.4. Carefully put the pieces together. Unlike a real instrument, this item is very fragile. You can easily damage the keys or force them out of alignment. You will have a hard time finding a repair shop willing to work on it. It is a throw-away item.5. Once together - inspect the keys once more. This time concentrate on the keys that operate across the center joint. For example, when you push a lower key does the upper section work properly? Each time you assemble the clarinet - it should be easier to do so.6. Make sure you clean the instrument well after each use. Store the instrument in the case when not being used. Pick up some sewing machine lubricant. As you use the instrument -- some keys may stick. Use a small drop of this oil on the sticky joint. Also, check the screws periodically to make sure they are secure (there is a screwdriver included).I would only use this instrument as a home practice instrument or, as I do, an instrument you do not plan to play with others -- The tone is okay. But to compare the tone to a real quality professional instrument is like comparing the speed of a bi-plane to that of a jet plane. It does have a book with a few songs and a fingering chart. I also got cork grease, and a cleaning rag. There is also a pair of white gloves that are only slightly more useful than the reeds. It does have a very nice case. The Clarinet does have a nice traditional appearance.I have not had the clarinet long enough to determine how it lasts over the long haul.

The clarinet checks every box I was looking for. It's fairly inexpensive, easy to clean, new (because you can get used for less), and the entire set makes it really easy to get going. The reed placement and embouchure took about 2 months to adjust to play the high notes while working at my own pace, but they are now easier to play than the day it was delivered. It just took time. I also like the white look of this clarinet. Why not something different? It certainly has been a delight and I keep it right next to my work desk for those lulls in the day where a bit of clarinet will lighten my day.And that it does, satisfyingly.

Very beautiful clarinet set , My daughter thought it was perfect! I was leary about buying one because they can run into hundreds of dollars... My daughter is 11.... It seemed like a risky purchase if she ended up not liking the instrument. But this set gives you a great deal so you can buy it with no worries! It looks like excellent materials, I was surprised ! Very good purchase!
