Used drill to rebuild large deck.Only negative has nothing to do with Metabo but the seller. Previously opened box (sold as though it was new) and handle was in pieces I had had to figure out how to reassemble since there are no instructions to put it together.

GENERAL COMMENTS: This is a nice looking tool that is well finished and has the kind of power one expects from a 1/2" corded electric drill. After it arrived, I tried it on a few small chores around the house and was pleased with how it handled. Compact yet powerful. The plastic body broke on the second day of use!PROS: Out of the box, it appears to be well made and nicely finished. It has a really long, flexible cord, a sturdy chuck, and plenty of power for those jobs needing a corded 1/2" electric drill.CONS: The FORWARD-REVERSE tabs (one tab on either side about an inch above the trigger) are awkward to use at best. This is really one control with two access points (tabs) that move in unison. If the one on the left side is down (Forward), the one on the other side is up. Bottom line there is that this control moved best if I used a finger on each side and did not move easily if I tried just one finger on one side. This is a serious drawback for me, as it's nice to be able to use one hand for the drill and its controls and to have the other hand free for whatever incidental need might be present.COMMENTS/CONCLUSIONS: During the second day of use and while using a 3/4" wood bit in soft wood, the drill bit caught in the work piece and slapped my hand against a wall. As I mentioned above, this drill has good torque/power. For whatever the reason, the trigger lock was actuated. I did not manually actuate it, but my hand may have accidently activated it. I just don't know about that. Even with my hand as a cushion, the plastic body cracked from either side of the trigger opening to the openings for the FWD-REV tabs. The forward part of the drill is metal and was undamaged, but the rear portion to include the pistol grip, trigger, and FORWARD-REVERSE controls is plastic. I have asked for a return/replacement and may update this review after I have more time to use the drill. However, I am VERY DISAPPOINTED that the drill body broke. I have used many electric drills over the years and can't recall ever having a drill body break from normal use. I have owned and used multiple Hitachi power tools, have been happy with all of them, and always look at Hitachi (now Metabo) when I need something new. We'll see how the replacement holds up.

Made in Germany! Not in Mexico or China. The quality of this drill will amaze you. Precision everywhere you look. Two speed 0 - 1100 / 0 - 3100 RPM and with a top dial that you can adjust the rpm from a full stop (0) to 3100 rpm dial, incredible! And with a 9.6 Amps rated at 1100 watt German motor. Even the 1/2 "-20 chuck and key it comes with is pretty nice and holds 1/8" to 5/8" drill bits.

Most drills you have to adjust the speed with the trigger. This has a separate speed dial from the trigger making it more consistent with speed. And, even has a two-speed gear to have higher torque at lower RPM.It has a unique pulse mode. Where it gives a burst of torque about once or twice a second. I doubt I will use that much.Note that some places list this as a hammer drill and it is not. Though I guess the pulse mode might be sort-of a substitute for hammer mode.
