Brilliant product. Was having lots of trouble prior to this product with smoke entering the house. Couldn't understand it because the ratio of flue area to fireplace opening area should enable good airflow up the chimney. This product fixed the smoking issue right away. It also burns wood beautifully (lots of heat due to the vertical orientation of logs). A metal backing is critical but thankfully the last guy to work on our chimney had installed a thick metal backing saving us that purchase. Thank you for a well designed product.

Modern design, ruggedly built, does exactly what it claims. I’ve been building fires in the fireplace on standard iron grates for 40 years, and now i feel stupid for never having heard of this thing. It burned all of the wood completely with no poking or adjustment necessary. Truly great product.

It is a very interesting design. I would agree that it successfully helps to burn less wood than traditional grates. I also agree that the design is far better than any traditional grate. It does the job, is structurally built, and the fire looks aesthetically pleasing because of the design of the grate. It arrived faster than expected. Is it worth the money however? I think they charge way too much for it despite the benefits. All around though, I give it a solid 4 stars.

I don't usually write reviews but I felt I had to for this fireplace grate. We have an old house with old, shallow and tall fireplaces that were probably used for cooking when the house was built. The fireplace grate we inherited with our house looks like the $40 type you can buy from your local hardware store and, while it does the job of holding wood, smoke billowed out of our (just cleaned) fireplace every time we had a fire- to the point that we debated not using the fireplace anymore! I did a little research and found this vertical fireplace grate that I initially hesitated buying because I thought it looked a bit gaudy from the photos I saw and... the price, I wasn't sure it would be worth it. Let me tell you, I was wrong. This thing is a game-changer! Not only does it prevent smoke from coming into the house, like at all, it heats the whole first floor! Something our fireplace definitely did not do before. It also Keeps the logs stacked over top of the hot coals below, allowing them to keep the fire hot and burning MUCH longer without needing to add more logs. I'd say for around $100, this grate is going to save us money in the long run on our gas heat and firewood. WINNER WINNER!! PS- I was wrong about the gaudiness of the design. It basically looks the same as a classic fireplace grate in person, maybe even sleeker and more classic!

I bought this along with the relective fireback. Perfect for my small pre-fabbed fireplace! Keeps the logs (and the smoke) near the back of the fireplace, close to the flue; does a super efficient job of burning ALL of the wood, creating a warm bed of coals, which the fireback to pushes into the room. The fireback absolutely adds to the heat index within the room, however I have a rather small fireplace in a 324 square foot room, so it doesn't COMPLETELY warm the room, but makes a notable difference!A larger fireback would be optimal, but cost was a concern. These items are expensive!I had to do a lot of research and contemplation before finalizing my purchase.Overall, I'm extremely pleased with my purchase, the price, not so much, but worth it!Cozy and warm (and smoke free)!

Teepee shaped fireplace in our new home. Looked nice but would smoke up the entire house. Bought this as a last resort before trying to replace the fireplace. It works amazingly well. Place some cardboard at the bottom, some smaller sticks then a log. Fire starts right away and stays that way. Just throw another log on top as needed. No smoke and starting and keeping the fire going couldn't be easier.

I have the 16" and it is not near as upright as it looks. I thought it would be a wall but it isn't. It still allows smoke in the room too. I purchased the back panel as well. I don't notice a change in the amount of heat in the room either. Disappointed customer right here. $300 dollars later.
