I use 3x5 cards to organize my todos and I have software that prints a QR Code on the back of the cards as an index. That way I can scan the card and go to the entry in my files quickly. This reader stays plugged in to my USB hub and using the keyboard emulation, I simply need to waive my card over the reader. The reader detects if there is a change in light level and will begin scanning, so it is effectivly "always on". I have two of these now. One for my office at work and another for my home office.

I sell on different platforms, including eBay, and I always look for tech items to make my work easier. This proved to be one of them. I have owned several handheld wired and wireless barcode scanners over the past decade. I was looking for something that I could scan with that was hands-free. This one has operated flawlessly, scanning even small barcodes of my products. The ball scanner makes it great for when I am not at my desk and need to take it to scan inventory.

The product has poor support, it started failing after a month, its readings are not accurate, it has latency, and it reads the codes intermittently. It has outdated incompatible drivers since 2014 only for Windows 7 versions. Although I wanted to change its functionality to be used via UART, not as HID device emulation, it's not impossible since its drivers are quite old, with little support for X64.
