Great product. I used two of them on a cave dive in northern Florida last week. The only thing I would suggest is to make the loop in the string large enough that the spool can be passed thru it. I re-tied mine.

Used it to test/deploy 4' SMB it 3 times myself, buddy 1 time. With gloves and no gloves. All 4 tests from 20-25'. The plastic fold out arm/holder (used to hold the spool steady while winding) and the plastic folder out thumb tab (used to wind it) both are flimsy and caused quite awkward winding movement. Nothing smooth about the spin process. Took too much time fussing with holding it steady, and line gets easily fouled because of that. Would not recommend for serious deployment. Basically, I bought expensive string.

If you are looking for a cheap reel - this is the right one. I needed something quick and inexpensive for my wreck diving certification. For a true wreck dive - you need to spend more money. This reel should not be used in a true cave or wreck experience.

I haven't used this in the water yet but I'm not sure I like the reeling mechanism. On dry land it seems to pile the line since it wobbles a bit as you reel and lays the line on the reel in a sort of diagonal pattern. I might have been happier with a simple finger reel.
