NICHE PISTON

An ATV piston is a component of engines, pumps, and gas compressors. It is located in a cylinder and is made gas-tight by piston rings. In an engine, its purpose is to transfer force from expanding gas in the cylinder to the crankshaft through a piston rod and or connecting rod

Piston Anatomy

A piston is a cylindrical engine component that slides back and forth in the cylinder bore by forces produced during the combustion process. The piston acts as a movable end of the combustion chamber. The stationary end of the combustion chamber is the cylinder head.

Piston Components

ATV Piston components include the piston head, piston pin bore, piston pin, skirt, ring grooves, ring lands, and piston rings. The piston head is the top surface of the piston which is subjected to tremendous forces and heat during normal engine operation

NICHE GASKET

A gasket is a mechanical seal which fills the space between two or more mating surfaces, generally to prevent leakage from or into the joined objects while under compression.

Some Types of Gaskets:

  • Head gaskets create a seal between the engine block and cylinder head. This seal establishes a proper compression and prevents fluid leaks into the cylinders
  • Base gaskets create a seal between the top-end of your engine and the engine cases. Stop pesky engine oil leaks before they cause permanent damage to your engine.
  • The valve cover is sealed to the upper section of the engine cylinder head by a valve cover gasket. As it passes around the camshafts, rockers, and valves, the gasket stops engine oil from seeping out.

Had piston slap upon assembly. Ended up using the old Honda piston with the new rings jug and wrist pin. Everything seems nice except the piston. I think this kit can be bought with a nice piston, that's what I'd recommend.

I bought this product a few months back because my original top end started smoking and i do have this 4 wheeler set up for deep water so i do have everything sealed and it only got water in the top end one time and i didnt try to start it till i got the spark plug out and get the water out then continued to ride then 3 or 4 rides later down the road it continued to act up and would only high idle and now it wont start and only has 30 psi of compression and it was fresh water

The NICHE pistons are too small , they why everyone hears a rattle with these kits, too much clearance. The cylinders work great if you install a different brand of piston.. I use a Numura Piston and rings in the NICHE cylinder, works sounds perfect. There are other aftermarket cylinder kits I have used and the Rings are too large.

Was wondering if anyone else was having problems with the piston and ring kits had the mechanic put the hole top in on my honda 350es rancher and has a loud tick at the top he said when he took it out the box that it's was super tight fitting the piston in the sleeve runs but that loud tick has me worried don't want to ride it sounding like that should I have him take it back out and send it back

This cylinder / piston and gasket set was replacement that a customer asked me to install ,on there Honda 350 atv ,I did not like the honing marks in the cylinder in one area could see level honing marks with a lighter 30 degree marks above , I used a ball hone to rehone the cylinder and properly cleaned , the piston and rings looked good , the piston pin fit nice in the piston , I did not like the very weak spring feel of the piston pin clips , felt very cheap , I used different pin clips , the cylinder base gasket did not line up with the 2 outer m6 bolt holes completely, I had to cut out slightly egg shaped so gasket would not buckle when pushed to line up these holes , installed cylinder , the metal head gasket would not fit over the 2 dowel pins on top of cylinder , would fit on one or the other but not on both , had to use fine grinding stone to enlarge holes slightly for gasket to fit , after finished job , quad runs and sounds good , customer is happy .someone without my experience might have found this kit more difficult to make changes and adjust , with some better quality control from manufacturer I think would be a good affordable product for customers.
