My 8 yr old daughter learned how to do this very quickly. She loves the design and continues doing when she has free time. Great activity!

I gave this to my granddaughter for Christmas and it was the first present she opened and started to hook. She loved it. It’s easy for a 9 year old to do.

i had not yet tried my hand at latch hooking and had been waiting to find the "right" kit so i'd be motivated to get at it. imagine surprise when this was an available vine item! i had to get it, the heart design and colors were just perfect! now, this is marketed to children/beginner's but the instructions leave much to be desired. as an advanced knitter, and no stranger to other needle/yarn arts, it was very straightforward, however, i was having a tough time getting the needle to pull the yarn through so i watched a few youtube tutorials/read more in depth instructions online, and it wasn't until my third basic how-to video that someone explained how you're supposed to pull the yarn through on the "parallel" lines that don't budge, so the lines that are simply twisted once should be the vertical lines, not the horizontal lines that you hook in to - otherwise the whole piece can stretch, even once the yarn is attached, but also, the hook will want to get caught up in between the twist. now, the first issue is that the pattern is so crooked and goofy looking, i had to redo the entire chart to make the heart more uniform. pretty sure an even number of holes would have solved this but mine is 49 holes across (and to be fair, this crookedness is apparent if you look closely at the stock photos, but much more obvious when looking at the chart). the second issue is that my canvas is printed with the color chart incorrectly. it's oriented so that you're hooking on the "twisted" line, not the stronger, non-stretchy lines. so the whole thing basically has to be re-done, which isn't very beginner or child friendly. to boot, i still had a hard time pulling the yarn through itself even after turning the canvas to make the stronger line the horizontal hooking line. it wouldn't come out smoothly and i often felt like i was going to break the hook. not sure if this is due to the acrylic quality or the hook, itself, or if it's just how it goes, but plenty of youtubers make it look pretty smooth and effortless, so i'm chalking this up to the overall womp womp quality of the kit and not user error or skill level. i do really want to take this up as a hobby and have always loved the results of a good pattern, so i am looking forward to trying out higher quality tools. will update if i have the same issues and it's not just this kit but as of now, i will say this is a great starting point, price-wise, and the patterns offered are cute, but it might be more frustration than fun for some.

The yarn for this kit is really soft which is nice. It is also sorted by color and not mixed together in the same bundle. The yarn is wrapped in little plastic sleeves that keep the colors separate. The design is already on the canvas so you don't have to guess what color to use. The edges are pre-finished but there is an extra row of canvas between it and the design so it will end up with a weird gap. Also the directions on how to actually attach the yarn was not very clear at all. I had to look it up on YouTube to understand it. The canvas is really stiff and the included hook tool is rather flimsy. The hook tool also didn't fit very well with the yarn. Overall this project was really fun and really calming. I recommend this for beginners.
