About Old Town
Old Town has a long tradition of innovative technology, dating back to 1898, when the company built its first wood-and-canvas canoe, based on a Native American birch bark design. In 1940, the company rendered the traditional seal-skin kayak design in more durable wood-and-canvas, and later introduced lightweight fiberglass models in the '50s.

Today, Old Town continually strives to advance the art of paddling through design improvements and lighter, more durable materials, such as three-layer polyethylene and Superlinear technologies.

Used on a 15-ft Old Town Pathfinder. I hold a Minn Kota 40lb thrust C2 motor. My very first attempt at mounting this to the canoe seemed tight enough on the shore, but the first time the motor pushed against it, the torque caused the entire mount to loosen and twist. The motor also seemed to be bending the oak, which seemed impossible, but it was what I was seeing from my position.Lessons learned: Back on dry land again, I took the time to really hand-twist the knobs down more than I thought was needed at first. I flipped the canoe over and accessed the 1/2" nuts that secure the oak to the metal of the crossbar. I instantly found I was able to give those multiple turns with the ratchet, meaning out of the box, they weren't very tight. Now the mount was very firmly in place and the oak was ratcheted down. Now after that initial first run, everything is perfect. It has become an indispensable part of my trolling trips to the lake. I now make periodic checks of the attachment points to the canoe, attempting to twist by hand. I do this now almost robotically as I put-put around the lake. I don't even think about it. This is a really great motor mount. It is extremely well built.

Ordered Sunday arrived Wednesday in perfect condition Super sturdy, well build old town motor mount. Fits my Old Town Pathfinder perfectly. Old town box was old, beat up and had no padding (nothing to do with the vendor). Shipped in plastic sleeve. Would recommend both motor mount and vendor.

Excellent product from a great manufacturer. Solid and simple. It’s pricey, but I like Old Town so I don’t mind paying up. In the end I highly recommend this motor mount.

The bolt for the wagon wheel for gun wales attachment was damaged and was unable to remove to switch the wooden blocks. Very disappointed and now scrambling to find replacement parts.

So far so good! Fits my Old Town Discovery 164 canoe very well. I run a Mercury 2.5HP FourStroke motor on it and it seems to hold the weight and power of the motor very well. I do attach a rope to the motor just incase the mount pops loose but so far it hasn't.

The mount bends and flexes with the torque and weight of the motor. The screws are also not as sturdy as I would like. I don't think there is enough width to it.Bottom line, the motor mount is one of the most important parts of a motorized canoe. Less rigid means less propulsion and efficiency, less distance, wasted battery life. Unreliable means a risk of getting stranded, capsized, or losing your motor, just from accidentally turning or thrusting too suddenly. One time, while turning my canoe my motor did slip off one of these mounts, which had cheap softer wood that had gotten compressed from tightening the motor to it. Fortunately I had a safety cord tied and pulled the runaway motor in. These mounts should really be "over-built," because of how much repetitive stress is put on them, especially from waves, using reverse, and launching from shallow water with the motor held out of the water. A 55lb thrust electric motor is basically a gigantic magnet stuck at the end of the shaft turning the propellor and it weighs a lot.I have a Minn Kota 55lb thrust TM on an Old Town Guide 147 and have tried a few different commercial mounts, which all have had similar problems mostly due to cheap parts and construction. Commercial manufacturers will always be trying to cut corners and in this case they get away with it since most people don't actually use their canoes much. I ended up making my own mount from oak boards, big 1/2" carriage bolts and steel brackets. It has been rock solid for several years. If you use your canoe/motor a lot you are probably best off making a mount yourself.

Well constructed but not wide enough for my OldTowne Predator 13. Should have included this in the description. I modified mine by adding an addition aluminum slat. Solid construction

I had on of these for over 40 years and it always perform great on my canoes. I bought this one, minor changes to old one, because I gave my other to my nephew 5 years ago for his canoe, he uses is it all the time with no issues. One difference is the "bottom brace/back stop on the new version is wood my old one was a piece of cast metal bolted through the top plate, it was much more robust. I haven't had a chance to use it yet but have my fingers crossed it will function like the older version.
