Rule of thumb for this particular item, ice maker, yes. Ice keeper, no. When the tray is full, put the into a container ready for freezer. And maybe shut it off til the ice in the freezer is almost out. It does make ice pretty damn fast, but doesn't hold it like I was thinking. Get a bigger more expensive one if you want the ice to stay in the maker. Otherwise, works good.

We have a 31-foot camper we keep set up on our property in the mountains. It's small fridge and small freezing unit will freeze an ice tray in about three hours. That means we run out of ice quick when it's hot outside and there's four or five of us there. We figured this little ice maker could do the job and so far, it's working out great. We just turn it on and leave it running until we have filled several gallon sized, zip-lock bags and stored them in the freezer. This is way better than trying to fill and balance ice trays. This ice maker is quick, making nine cubes every six minutes. Its operation is quiet, and it has a 1.5-liter water reservoir. As long as you keep it loaded with water and the ice basket emptied, it can produce over 26 pounds of ice in 24 hours. The machine is compact and has a handle for easy transport. There are controls for large and small cubes and warning lights for when to refill the water and empty the ice basket. It also offers a cleaning cycle that should be run after long periods of not being used to remove any bacteria that might have accumulated. The machine is smart enough to remain cold when the water runs out or the ice bucket is full. This means the ice can sit frozen all day or at least until you can offload it to your freezer for storage. The bottom line, this is a high-quality machine that can make ice continuously and fast enough for family use or storing up for parties. We've been using it at our camper on weekends and so far, it's been great. I can highly recommend!

This is a vine review meaning the product was provided to be reviewed. This product is a portable countertop ice maker, ice scoop, and illustrated instruction book. It is packed in a brown cardboard box. See attached detail photographs of front of product and top of product, both with a pop can as a size reference.I ordered this product to make ice to fill the cooler for my boat so I would not have to go to the store on my way to the dock. The limitation of this plan is the size of the ice basket of the product, which will need to be emptied quite a few times to fill the cooler over the course of several hours. The product has a reservoir of water which is beneath the ice basket. When turned on, the product pumps water from the reservoir into a scoop shaped container that encompasses downward pointing refrigerated elements that become coated with ice. When the ice coating is sufficient, the ice cubes are popped off the elements, dropping to the bottom of the icemaking compartment, and are pushed forward into the ice tray by a mechanized plastic shovel. An interesting and clever methodology for making and managing Ice.The product has sensors for water level and ice level and will shut down it’s ice making operation if water level falls too low or the ice basket gets too full. The product makes two different sizes of ice cubes. Please refer to the attached detail photographs showing small and large sized ice cubes. As mentioned, when the water level gets too low, or the basket gets too full of ice, the icemaking operation will shut down. I thought that this would mean the ice left in the icemaker would eventually melt. However, the icemaker periodically turns on to keep the ice cool in the basket and prevents it from melting. This is a nice touch and I am glad it was designed into the product. In summary, this product is an effective ice making machine. I wish it had a larger basket but nonetheless it is effective at making a lot of ice over time.

I've kept this ice maker in my garage and it functions perfectly well in the variety of temperatures that we've experienced over the last few days. I like to take road trips and go eat at parks, and I really hate how I would have to completely empty my freezer of ice to fill up one of my coolers. This ice maker is definitely a really good supplement to my freezer's ice! It can't handle my largest cooler by itself, but as long as I'm somewhat diligent about it a handful of hours before I leave, I can get plenty of ice produced before I head out.I've not noticed any off flavors, and the ice can stay unattended in the bin for quite a while with no noticeable melting.

After many years our previous larger and must costlier portable ice maker needed to be replaced. This model is approximately one-third the cost of our old unit and we are pleased with it for the price. It is very quiet and produces ice rapidly. The only negative that caused me to give it four stars is: because of the units' small size, the water and ice holding area is much smaller than our previous machine and the large ice size is equal to the small size on our old machine, therefore, when full it only holds enough ice for one full glass - however rapidly re-fills in 15 minutes. I consider it best for use for a "one-person use".
