I purchased a Jawploy 64GB Digital Voice Recorder and was very unhappy with its performance, so I purchased this Olympus OM System VN-541PC and the little extra money was well spent. The best thing about this recorder is its simplicity. I dont need to have to push 2 or 3 extra buttons just to record and play back, and this recorder makes it so easy that you'll never have to memorize how to use it. It's got one button record (no turning the device on first) and the sound is great. Playback is just as easy. If you need the extra bells & whistles, they're there however. For the money, this recorder is hard to beat.

Point is, I like this enough that this is my third one. The first two went bad because I had so many things on my mind, I put it on the toilet while I showered. Eventually, the water on my hands got into the electronics and messed them up. The only thing I wish is that they would put a lock on the record button. It can easily be triggered unintentionally. I had an RCA decades ago that had that feature and I wish this had it as well. I also purchased a different voice recorder that was really nice and had a "lock", but the lock is... I am not even sure what it is for. That one takes a long time to "power up". This one, you push the button up and it starts recording right away. Downloading to a PC is simple. There are pre-built folders, but the Long-Play folder does a low-quality recording and I strongly recommend against using that. The capacity is sufficiently long that you can record for a long time before needing to download. Just don't take it in the shower and don't use it with wet hands.

I have used a variety of digital recorders, for work, and this has been my favorite. This is a replacement for one I recently lost.Recordings are clear, and it is very reliable.The large start button sets this recorder apart from other recorders, including other OM (Olympus) recorders. When the large switch is moved up you're recording, and when its down you're not. Much more simple that other start/stop buttons.The only downside to this recorder, and its a very minor issue, is that it does not have a USB, or USB-C, "male" connector built into the device. That means you need a Micro USB cord to connect to your PC. Again, that's a very minor issue.Some complain about using regular disposable batteries, instead of having a rechargeable battery. In my experience, you are much better off with traditional batteries. Every recorder I have used with a rechargeable battery could not handle long recordings, and wouldn't hold a charge, even with zero use, for more than 24 to 36 hours. I need to have my recorder ready to use, sometimes after a few days of not using it, and I need to make some long recordings. That means I can't depend on a rechargeable device, and need traditional disposable batteries.

I have used Olympus recorders for decades as a full-time journalist. This OM recorder is made of flimsy plastic and has multiple problems - all of which I just saw have been reported by others. It would NOT TURN OFF without removing batteries. The directions are stupid and illogical. It is a total waste of my time and money and I am appalled this is supposedly made by the same company that made my other wonderful Olympus recorders.
