This is a very stout tool. I got it to add to my emergency kit so it would be handy if I should need to cut off the gas and water. But it is more than that. The other functions add to the usefulness in an emergency. It is the perfect size.

I bought this for my emergency backpack. It is strong yet light weight and sturdy. The fire department in my town suggested this item to have just in case. Great purchase.

It's surprisingly lightweight (not tool steel), so not sure how much abuse it can take, but it operates my utility shutoffs with ease (just make sure not to turn the gas off all the way when testing it, otherwise you'll need to call the gas company to perform a safety check before turning the gas back on).

I doubt this will reach deep water shut offs, but for the most part, it's perfect to keep in my bunker gear to turn off gas and secure utilities.

I think everyone should know where their gas shut-off is and how to use this tool. I keep mine tied with a small string to my gas meter. I can easily break the string for emergency use. ( use the line on the meter knob as your guide; if you have the line going up and down where the pipes meet think of it blocking the flow. When it is going across, like if it was a channel between the pipes, it's on). I was so happy to get one for my kid. She thought she smelled gas so she immediately shut it off. Turns out it was a skunk LOL but we both felt much better that she was able to quickly 'fix' the problem.

We bought 2 of these to use as emergency tools in our home & one for our vehicle. We actually have used it quite a bit! It's hefty in weight, but light enough not to be cumbersome. The edges are rounded in the right places and sharp in others. Comes in handy when you least expect it! Highly recommended!

Check the depth of your valve pit and the length of the tool to make sure that you will be able to get your hand on the tool in the best position to apply force. Measure the size of the valve handle on the water valve to be sure that this device will fit correctly. In our town the public works folks will turn off the water after a phone call. they assume any liability if the valve breaks. If the homeowner damages the valve, the homeowner is liable. just a thought...
