About this item

  • Solid 1 1/4 " thick cast iron
  • Machined 90 degrees on three sides
  • Includes dial indicator

Product description

Its flat foot set parallel to the base makes it the one and only tool that really works for precision setting of machines around the shop. Quickly, Accurately. No Fiddling. The ONEWAY Multi Gauge is an evolution in the way indicators can be used in the home work shop. THe indicator has a 1-1/32 travel and is exactly 900 to the base. The frame is 1-1/4 thick and is made from quality cast iron. Three sides are precision machined at 900. Unlike setting jointer knives with a straight edge, magnets or a machinists magnetic base, the ONEWAY Multi gauge lets you know exactly where jointer knives are in relation to jointer table. CAN ALSO BE USED TO: - Accurately measure height of sharper and router bit setting. - Measure drill bit & dowel diameter and flat stock. - Set depth of cut. - Measure groove depths. - Set rabbet widths. - Check saw blade run out.

I have an older Craftsman 6 1/8" jointer, model no. 103.20620, that has been a headache since I bought it a few years ago. Between the fence deflection/squareness, the indeed bed and knives' height adjustment I could never get it work even remotely acceptable. In lieu of purchasing a new jointer, which I don't really have the funds nor the shop space, I decided looking into a gauge to help set the knives(my major shortcoming)in a last ditch effort to get the ol' girl up and running. After doing some research on the web I decided this gauge was the best option, mind you this gauge is nearly twice what I paid for the jointer itself.I received the Mult-Gauge promptly. It was packaged well so there was no damaged. The dial indicator, while not the best one, works just fine. The cast iron base was machined well with no sharp edges left. I noticed a few small marks on the front of the casting though. They look like they were made from a center punch, maybe to check for internal stresses or to see if the casting would crack. Otherwise everything was very good. The gauge was easy to set up. I wish I could say that about my jointer. All and all this gauge is a savior. I able to set the edge on my indeed table, the height of my knives and square the fence more accurately then with combo square. After all that the true was to come. I got a piece rough walnut ran its face then an edge, unbelievably for the first time ever with this machine I got a perfect 90 degree surface. This gauge turned a boat anchor into a decent bench top jointer. It's a great gauge worth every dime and should last forever if taken care of. I noticed some complaints so if you need to replace it you'll need have a indicator with a stem diameter that's .375" and stem/plunger length of at least 2.035".If OneWay wanted to really step this gauge up to its fullest potential they should extend the casting 3/4" across the back x 1/8" thick so it could ride inside the miter slot of a table saw so you could set that fence too.

I recently purchased a Grizzly G0490 jointer, and was really fighting with it. I could not make boards flat regardless of what I tried technique-wise. I realized that I needed to make sure the jointer was set up accurately. I saw "The Wood Whisperer" compare several methods of setting jointer knives on a video and this gauge was his top choice. I ordered based on that.I am not disappointed. The gauge works as advertised. I was able to dial-in my knives within 1/1000 or so easily. I have made several cuts since then and the jointer works as it should. I expect it will be useful for setting blade or bit height also, but I haven't used it for that yet. If it worked for nothing but setting up the jointer accurately, it would be worth the cost. The tool is well made and heavy. It appears to be accurate. I am definitely happy with my purchase.

I bought my jointer used and have never been able to get it to cut properly. I set up the table and the fence. I removed my knives and sharpened them. I was getting a bowed cut with a high place in the middle of the board. I was considering buying a straight edge to align my table more accurately, but I found information online that indicated that my knives were set too low. I checked again and again, but it seemed to me that all of my knives were higher than the out feed table. I began a search for a tool or jig that I could set use to more accurately set my knives and after watching a video of a comparison of several I decided to purchase the Oneway Multi Gauge. After receiving and setting up the tool I quickly determined that my knives were mostly set about a thousandth lower than the out feed table, although one end of one knife was about four thousandths above it. That explained another problem with the cuts I was getting where the edge was not 90 degrees to the face. I spent a little over an hour to set my knives with the Multi Tool and my jointer is cutting great for the first time since I have owned it. I do have one knife that is five thousandths too high on one end caused by my sharpening, but I would have to have a board over 5 inches wide to be effected by that error. It's very satisfying to know that my other set up efforts have yielded such good results. Of course I will be purchasing a straight edge in the future as well as a sharpening jig for the knives if I am not able to build something. I also want a precision square, but the Multi Gauge also functions as a precision square so I was able to verify the set up of my jointer fence. I suppose that some of the magnetic knife set up tools would be quicker than the Multi Gauge, but they would not give the feedback information that you get with this tool, nor would they be able to set the 90 degree fence angle. Also with my problem of one knife having a high end they may not have been able to set my knives or indicate why they could not.

Works as it should for setting jointer blades. Finding dead centre is much easier with this jig. A little pricey that's why 4 star rating
