Ortofon VNL

VNL - "In ViNyL we trust"

Even before the launch of the Concorde MkII, we have always studied the feedback of our customers and how they utilize our products.

Skilled DJs demand specialized tools that can help them push their creativity to the edge – consistently testing the boundaries in the realm of performance.

Understanding this and reflecting our extensive experience in industrial design and technological know-how, we present the new Ortofon VNL cartridge – a model tailored uniquely to the unrelenting demands of modern turntablists and portablists.

The new VNL features and improvements

- Extra resistance to hardcore scratching and back spinning

- High tracking performance for both DVS usage and real vinyl - Optimal balance of output and of sound quality

Technological improvements have been applied for the benefits of all users: - Ultrasonic welding of the components ensures high rigidity and freedom from resonances. - Robotic assembly of stylus assembly offers high precision and uniformity of industrial production.

VNL Styli

3 different feels to fine-tune your performance

To match the multiple applications of modern DJs the VNL Introduction Package includes 3 different styli with suspension types of varying feel and rigidity: VNL I compliance, dynamic lateral 16 μm/m N - Flexible VNL II compliance, dynamic lateral 15 μm/m N - Rigid VNL III compliance, dynamic lateral 14 μm/m N - Firm DJs can easily identify which stylus type best suits their individual DJ style and enables their absolute best performance capability.

Exclusive features

The VNL features a spherical stylus which is perfect for tough groove handling. Furthermore, it reduces record wear when scratching and back-cueing to an absolute minimum.

The broad stance of the VNL features solid and robust design elements characteristic to Ortofon, with colors meticulously selected to emphasize sturdiness and DJ aesthetics: the cartridge body has been designed to provide easy mounting and alignment on a variety of headshells.

The VNL provides excellent compatibility when used in an assortment of playback systems, ensuring it stays in the groove under the most demanding conditions.

I've been a DJ since 2000, used vinyl for many years until Shure stopped making the 447 needle. Have struggled to find an affordable replacement. Decided to give the Ortofon VNL a try. The purchase of the cartridge gets you three stylii of varying flexibility, one for casual listening, one for DJing/scratching, and one for DVS. The sound is crisp and clear, the quality of the product is outstanding, I just ordered a second cartridge for my other Technics. The idea that I can switch out the stylus depending on whether I'm just listening or digitizing vinyl or DJing gives me the confidence that these needles are going to last a long time as well as preserve the integrity of my record collection. I'm impressed and relieved that I have found an affordable and easily accessible 447 substitution.

So I own two Shure M447s that have seen better days, Ortofon OM Qberts, and a pair or Ortofon OM Pro S'. These Ortofon VNLs are great DJ needles and sound very good. They track well and work like a dream out of the box. I'm using the "2" needle which it comes with, but it's nice that you have two extra needle changes in the box with it. I mainly use Serato DVS, but I do spin analog vinyl as well. On analog vinyl they definitely sound better than my M447s. and the output rating isn't really a big deal. They are plenty loud and offer a nice clarity and sound profile throughout the ranges. I highly recommend this needle, especially to DJs, but even just for easy listening they would work well. L8r!

A combination of excellent price, great sound performance, and multiple styli included makes this a home run for any beginner/basement dj imo. As mentioned in the q&a section, there are better carts for sound quality, but i think ortofon really hit the nail hereMy only complaint is the cart does ride pretty close to the vinyl. But otherwise, this is my go to recommendation for beginners/non-pros

This is an excellent cartridge period. I love it. I am a turntable guy whether real vinyl or dvs control vinyl. These are excellent. Mine came with 3 different needles/styli. I, II, & III. Each have their own characteristics. The difference is in the cantilever flexibility/stiffness. This is a great value for the money.

Amazing replacement for the M447. Used them for many years and finally got these. They are legit in performance and quality. Output is a bit lower. That’s really it! Highly recommend!

I wanted to keep using old-style cartridges so I could keep using the Technics headshells, so I had been trying to keep some old Stanton and Shure cartridges working with knock-off (Jico, etc) stylii. But things never really worked right, and I was about to give in and go for one of the space-needle-looking Ortofon DJ cartridges. Luckily I waited long enough, and Ortofon released this cartridge. It's a great deal, stable enough for my unskilled scratching, and they sound much better than the knock-off stylii what I've been using recently as well. I had some bassy electronic singles that just weren't playing properly with the knock-off stylii, but they sound good as new with the VNLs.

Great value since it comes with 3 styli with different levels of stiffness. However I suppose most dj’s will stick with the one they prefer so really two will probably sit in the box unless there’s an emergency. Sound quality is acceptable. Similar to the shure M447 but seems a little quieter with a little less harshness on the bass and high end.

I have nothing bad to say about these. They are amazing and will be the only stylus and cartridge i get from now on. If you have not tried these yet and loved the shure m44-7 then you will love these even more.
