It works well and is solidly built, but the spreader is so long that it can be hard to use on medium-sized does and smaller deer.

I have had several spreaders, and this is the best one I have ever owned. The multiple teeth on the ends of the spreader work well to secure the spreader. It adapts to any size deer small or large. Almost effortless toplace the spreader into the rib cage. Once installed it securely holds the rib cage apart for easy field dressing. A must have for deer hunters. Open up the ribcage an avoid cutting yourself - see what you are doing.

Get two, and use them together to take smaller “bites†opening up the carcass. Eventually you’ll open up to the point you feel comfortable working with. And at this point one will be in place.

This is my second one of these. Lost my first one in the field. Only reason that I gave four stars is.because this thing needs to be bright orange so it is easier to find when you drop it in tall grass

I’m 75 years old and have been on blood thinners for about 10 years. This has caused my skin to tear extremely easily and bleed like crazy when reaching into the rib cage to extract the esophagus, lungs, heart, diaphragm,etc. As a result, I’ve sometimes ended up with as much of my own blood on my hands and arms as there was deer blood. This tool has been a Godsend. So far this fall I’ve used it on an antelope and two mule deer. Nary a scratch!!Thank you Outdoor Edge!!

This boomerang works exceptionally well.I saw a deer and I threw it at him.Although I was too far away to hit him, this boomerang flew very straight.I will get closer next time.
