We replaced our former OXO zester that we purchased in 2016 with this new model. The old model snapped in half after eight years of use and it was not sharp and easy to use like this one. The redesign is perfect. Using the channel for twists of lemon rinds for martinis is so easy it is like slicing butter. This redesign makes the zester perfect because it is one solid piece of black rubber. The redesign of the head makes using the channel much easier. It is very sharp so you need to be careful when cleaning it. I hand wash ours, but this could easily be put in the top rack of a dishwasher. I highly recommend this OXO zester. It is definitely a great value and is designed to last for many years.

I like to prepare martinis with a twist of lemon but found it difficult to do with a knife. Even though I have arthritic hands, it is very easy and comfortable to use. All Oxo products I have are comfortable and have very high quality.

Why do we wait on getting things that make our lives so much easier? I would always use a cheese grater and would get the pith as well but with this little tool those days are over. I had my husband buy oranges just so I could play with this. It does a good job and I only wish I would have got one sooner.

Feels nice to hold, make great long strips of zest, and is much safer and easier than trying to use a chef's knife to zest citrus. Not much to say, except... It's good.

I juice a lot of lemons in a year, around 20 to 30 for just my personal household use, not professionally or anything. But I've not got the knife skills necessary to be able to cut off the zest reliably without bringing the white pith with it.This thing is PERFECT - short fat grip, real sharp lil holes on the business end - I took a lil chunk out of a knuckle first time I used it! Put aside one lemon or lime to practice on - there's a sweet spot angle and amount of pressure that you'll have to figure out for yourself. A LOT of pressure, I can attest - act like you're mad at it, that'll get ya most of the way there! They say it's dishwasher safe, which is always good to hear. The oils that'll accumulate will definitely need some soap to cut them down, and you might end up with some pith around the channel-knife section, so you might need to poke at that with one of those small pipe-cleaner type things before dishwashing it.Certainly no functional limit to the number of citrus fruits that could be zested with this! But do keep some wits about you - I doubt you'll have a good time with grapefruit zest, but hey, I don't tell you how to live your life! LOL

I saw a citrus zester with this design in a YouTube video and was intrigued, because the normal zesters inevitably scrape me and get a lot of pith and take forever. I checked Amazon and was stoked Oxo makes one of this design, because I've rarely had an Oxo product that wasn't solidly made.Well, I actually did cut myself on this the first time I used it, but it was my fault because I had a parrot on my shoulder making things ergonomically awkward for myself. So it IS possible to hurt yourself on it. However, it's really easy to NOT hurt yourself if you don't have a parrot on your shoulder, and every subsequent time I used it was amazing and much safer than a normal zester.I highly recommend it, I'm very glad I got it and wish I'd always had one. Now when there's a recipe that requires zesting citrus I don't feel dread.Oh, and because the zest comes out in long strands, it's especially easy to strain out of liquids you may steep it in. And I guess it would make it really easy to make candied citrus peel, if you're into that sort of thing.
