I do layout work with our software, and I need a ruler that measures in decimal, rather than fractions of an inch.This works perfectly for that. I even ended up ordering another one of these when I lost the one I had... then the one I'd lost turned up while this one was in transit... but I have no complaints! Now I have two! =)

I am glad I ordered this scale, inspite of some low reviews. To clarify it is not old time K&E or Lutz forever quality, but I find it a very well crafted, affordable scale. If you want a old K&E or Lutz, they are still for sale, used on Ebay for too much money. My opinion is that you're better off using common sense and buying a new Pacific Arc. After all engineers are supposed to be analytical and have common sense. To clarify a couple points on the Pacific Arc: The scales, numbers and letters are engraved, not just painted on. They are not painted as dark as my old scales, but I think they're painted good enough to be easily read, even with my 75 yr old eyes. I assume the painted engravings will last a long time. The three lengthwise grooves are nicely, uniformly cut and painted blue, red, black. The ends have no overspray as some reviewers have complained. All edges are smooth and well finished. The scale feels very good in the hand. There is no warping at all; the scale lays flat on all sides. The scale hashmarks/numbers all match my 40 year old engineers scales exactly. I have always preferred plastic to aluminum and am glad that a good plastic scale is still made. I'm not making a sales pitch. I have no interest in Pacific Arc Company, and I rarely write reviews. But this scale was criticized by some reviewers, when I feel it should have 5 stars across the board. I thought that was worth saying to you shoppers who want a good scale.
