This is an effective paddle holder for those who use sit-in kayaks. It's not only the best product for the money, but it's better than paddle ropes costing 3-4 times as much. It's ingenious in its simplicity: Simply spread the two ends of the circular YakClip around the edge of they kayak cockpit (i.e., the oval-shaped opening in which you sit) and it forms a clamp around the cockpit lip. Once in place, you can push your paddle--without much effort--into the slightly protruding C - shaped holder. (It also has extra (smaller) clamps for things like fishing poles.)There's enough pressure to keep the paddle in place (unless you knock it off accidentally with a direct hit from your elbow or something). For this reason, and especially because you'll hurt your arm if you brush against the product while paddling, I recommend setting the YakClip either forward or in back of where your arms move while paddling. (Unfortunately, I found out the hard way that ou don't want to scrape your arm against the top! I suppose the device could be covered in rubber or something, but that would add to the cost, and the solution is very simple.)Other products often involve a rope tied around the paddle and then to the kayak. A common complaint is that despite the hook and loop attachment (also known as "Velcro"), the rope eventually moves and gets in the way of paddling. If you're an inventor type, you might want to find a way to attach something buoyant around your paddle. You might need to park your paddle while pausing to snap a picture, getting water, a snack, or anything else from a dry sack or other container, when you want to just lay back and enjoy a calm lake, or--ack!--in the event you need to pump water and want to make sure your paddle is secure. As I don't do sea-kayaking in rough water, I regretfully cannot tell you how well the YakClip holds under these conditions. (Perhaps that information is in one of the other reviews.) However, it should function well in typical lake, protected bay, estuary, slough, and other protected waterways. Delivery was relatively quick and the YakClip was well-packaged.

I should start by saying that I got these for my fiberglass canoe, because I didn't want to any drilling and possibly damage my canoe. These were the only removable paddle clips I could find. I bought only 1 at first to test it, as my gunwales are pretty thick and I wasn't sure of these would fit around it. It fit no problem, though I was sacred that I was going to break it at first. Now I recommend you get 2 for each paddle (remember I'm talking about canoes here, not kayaks). Here's why. With one paddle clip for one paddle, your paddle will be securely clipped in, and it won't fall out. In that sense, it works fine. The thing is that one paddle clip can't balance one entire paddle by itself, it can't keep the paddle straight. So what happens is that one end of the paddle will be pointing up (possibly getting in the way) and the other end pointing down (into the water). With 2 clips for each paddle, this problem is solved. However when I bought them, they were $8 a clip. So for 2 paddles, that's 4 clips total, coming out to $24. Not a whole lot of money, but a bit more than I originally wanted to spend. Still it is removable and you slide it along the gunwales, so that's really nice.Oh, there's also smaller clips on the either side of the paddle clip for your fishing rod. Works pretty good, not really anything amazing. It'll hold (at least with 2 clips it will lol), but you have to be careful because it can pop out and fall into the water if you accidentally hit it or something.

I installed these on our two kayaks and love them!I've tried almost every brand and style of paddle holders, these are by far the best! They clip on and hold a paddle securely to the side of your kayak! If you don't like where they are you don't have to drill out rivets and drill new holes to move them, just unclip them and put them someplace else... that is so nice!I think that they work so well I'd recommend them to anyone who doesn't like to see their paddle floating away as they get in or out of their kayak!

I just received my yakclip yesterday so I have not had the chance to try it out on the water, but I did test it at home. It’s a pretty solid piece of plastic, it is not flimsy so it has good strength. It fit my Old Town Vapor 10 with no problems. My paddle snapped into it nicely, it will hold my paddle in place far better than the built in “paddle holderâ€. I ended up ordering a second one however because I want it installed on the side of my kayak and I had to position it just so to keep the paddle level. I think this should come as a 2 pack for that reason; it would be much more secure. This will make just floating around or fishing much easier for me!

So this is a great product but it did not work for my particular sit in kayak. My kayak is the trophy 126, it clips on but is very unwieldy since the clasp doesn't grab a hold of the plastic at a good angle. Because of this attaching and detaching the paddle can cause you to scratch your kayak plastic since it moves around. Great idea but sadly, it didn't work for me. I'd return, but I didn't keep the packaging.

It’s great because you don’t have to drill a hole in your yak. I was able to clip it onto the front edge of the cockpit. It doesn’t sit upright because of the shape of the rim but leans backwards a bit. I use it to hold my paddle while I stop to take photos. It holds tightly which is good. The not so good is that it’s very stiff and putting the paddle in and out makes a lot of noise, when you need to quiet while taking bird photos. But that doesn’t impact how well the clip works, it’s just that personally I’d like something a bit quieter. If your usage is different it may not matter at all. I bought two thinking that I’d be able to use one on either side of the cockpit but the way the rim is designed (Old Town Cayuga kayak) doesn’t allow for that to work.

A scam for the price, the clip is not working well, it can’t even hold the paddle.
