What's the benefit of pleated vs the wound string? The pleated offers MUCH more surface area and lasts much longer. I gave up on the wound string filters years ago because of the superior water flow and longevity of the pleated filters. I really like them. But now, the experts are recommending spun polypropylene filters. These new polypropylene filters don't have a rating the same way that pleated filters do because they have a range of filtrations --- the outer layer may be rated for 20 micron, while the inner may be rated for 5 micron. This means that the bigger particles are trapped on the surface and smaller and smaller particles are trapped as the water moves toward the interior of the filter. The experts say that this method is superior to the pleated cellulose filter design, but I'm not sure. I'm testing both kinds in my house now, and they seem to be performing equally well for longevity. I don't think you can go wrong with these pleated filters. Of particular note is that the pressure drop in these filters is so low that it's very well suited to low water pressure situations. We have a gravity feed spring supplying water at 20 pounds of pressure in the basement. After the filter, there is 19 pounds of pressure, still enough to take a shower.

Such a great price! So glad I came to Amazon to buy these. We previously bought in bulk from another filter site and were paying nearly double! These work great!

Its nominal, 5-micron, cellulose pleat traps fine sediment and some rust particles and prevents these from entering the house plumbing system. Not apparent from the photograph of the product are the use of additional ring seals located at the top and bottom openings to reduce unfiltered water leakage past the filter and into the home.There is a tradeoff between particle trapping size and frequency of filter replacement. Since the 5-micron material traps finer particles than the 20-, 30-, 50-micron filters that are also on the market, you should expect to replace this filter more often than others. I replace it at least every four weeks, whereas others I've used lasted up to six weeks but provided less sediment protection.

Wilford Brimley said - check your sugar and check it often… I say check your filters and change them often. It’s cleaning the water that your family depends on. These filters have very good fit and quality but no filter is designed to last forever… use good filter like these and change them!

I have tried many different filters at many different prices for our home water softener system. This filter provides the absolute best "bang for the buck". A 5 micron filter is really ideal for optimum filtration (lower than 5 micron filters don't seem to last as long and higher micron filters don't seem to perform as well) this filter takes out the "bad stuff" (sediment/iron/whatever) and lasts around the 3 month lifespan a decent filter should. A great value here.

Made by a reputable company. These are Made in Mexico. it beats those who advertise theirs with a Canadian on their label deceiving consumers to think that they are made in Canada when in fact they are selling cheap made in China filters.

This pleated filters traps a lot when used as a pre sediment filter. We have one big blue before the pressure pump and 4 more after - scale remover, iron filter, charcoal and post sediment.
