bought 2 of the 2500 size and paired with Quantum Bill Dance version spinning rods 6'6" ML; a good match in size/weight. Loaded with 8 lb test mono and fish primarily for bass, pickerel and crappie. Casts great, bail is sturdy, smooth drag and comfortable handle. Love the cork grip on the handle. Attractive appearance, decent drag, quality drag components, and smooth retrieve in a sub-$100 reel. I also have three regular Pflueger Presidents and believe the XT version is worth the bit of extra $$. I recommend this reel for those interested in a quality panfish and bass spinning reel at a moderate price point.

For ultra light, light and light medium reels the Pflueger President Series has been my go to reels. I've owned these Pflueger reels for going on 10 years now, between the regular and the XT versions. None have ever failed on me, none have ever caused any problems!To me, they are the BEST value in the size classes referenced above in terms of price to performance to reliability to longevity.My kids grew up fishing these reels, learning how to use spinning reels - so they've been put through their share of abuse by inexperienced fishing people - but have always held up well.I bought the 30 XT reel to replace the 25 XT reel that ended up in the bottom of a lake when left unattended on a boat with the line out! That reel with 4 pound test caught a 46" musky (by my wife) - exactly one day before being lost to the lake.I can't speak highly enough about these reels. In my opinion, one has to spend A LOT more money to achieve better performance and service.So if you are seeking an ultra light, light, light medium or medium duty reel - I honestly don't think you can find anything better for the money and I don't think you can find anything even 25% better for three times the price of these.FYI - for medium heavy and heavy duty spinning reels, I use the Shimano Stradic Series (4000 & 5000 Series). They are a LOT more money, of course are built for much heavier applications, are silky smooth - but to be honest, I don't know if they are really that much better. I would rate those a 5 Star on quality and performance, but only a 3.5 to 4 star on value.I fish freshwater, inland lakes, typically for bass. Where I fish, bass are typically more moderate in size (2-3 pound range) and in my opinion, there is little more enjoyment in fishing than catching a bass on a 4 pound (line weight) ultra light or 6 pound light rod and reel set-up.

I got lucky and picked up the XT20 for only 65 bucks a far cry from the 95 dollar price tag. I’m impressed by the drag system and internal build quality. However I also have the regular president 20 and I can tell you apart from the anti-reverse switch. There’s not much of a difference, I’d even go as far as to say the regular president spinning reel is a better buy. It’s about 30 dollars cheaper and you get the same performance. I’d also like to say in my opinion the regular president build quality is actually better. The paint seems a lot better and so does the grip. If you can catch the XT on sale for 65 bucks I say go for it, but if not spring for the regular pflueger president.

A great reel for the price. Too bad the new models DO NOT have the anti reverse lever that lets you decide if you want to reverse the reel rotation or not. Yeah, it's the "new thing" , you can only reel in one direction on most new models regardless of the mfgr.

I have to PENN rod and reel combos, and this was my first investment to creating a "custom" build combo. This reel is amazing. It is nice and light, and has great drag adjustment, but don't forget, it's powerful. I hooked a cute little 3lb largemouth on the end of this guy, and while it did but up a fight, the reel in was smooth, drag adjustment was efficient, and the catch was even better. Can't wait to look at more Pfleuger reels in the future, but my wallet can wait for that time a little more. Great investment, looking forward to using it in the future.

If your looking for a smooth reel with a good high ratio and not too heavy, look no further. These president reels are amazing. I use these outfits on all my jigging rods for the Detroit River walleye run and I also use larger sizes for salmon drifting and they work awesome. No matter what size you need, there's one available for any application you need it for. There's no need to be buy a Stradic Ci4 when you can get these reels at their listed price.

Nice smooth reel. I ordered the smallest size because it feels comfier while holding for long periods. The drag is smooooth like butter. The spool is large enough for some lake trout fishing while vertical jigging at over 80ft deep. The handle is comfy on the fingers.
