Special Notes in the Use of Pinless Moistue Meter
- Keep fingers on the green-rubber grips, well clear of pad scanning area.
- Wipe measured material surface dry and neat for best results.
- In addition, the measured material (walls,masonry and wood) being measured is not stacked or sitting on wetter materials.
- The Moisutre tester readings can be influenced by stacked materials, nearby metal, or your own fingers.

I used it to measure the water content of a new fence, as a prelude to applying oil seater. Easy to use, because you just touch it to the wood, and you get a reading just like that. Much easier to use than the kind that have pins to be inserted into the wood. I did not rate accuracy---seems accurate to me, but who knows for sure.

This is the same unit the insurance adjuster used that checked the water damage to our hardwood floors. I was surprised that it was so inexpensive.

First one received didn’t work at all. Ordered a second replacement one and promptly received it. Works great. Easy to read screen. Fast readout. I like the warning tone when the wood reads higher than 15%. It keeps the firewood suppliers honest.

I received the meter and installed the batteries that came with it. It wouldn't turn on and I was going to return it. The next day I decided to go to town and purchase new batteries and that fixed the problem. I'm glad of that because if I choose to return it I have a 52 mile round trip to a UPS store.

I bought this after an undetected dishwater leak caused my kitchen floor to buckle. The contractor working for the insurance agent showed me how easily his moisture meter (a more expensive type) could detect and map out the under floor leaks, and I was hooked. This inexpensive model works fine for me. It has a stylish design, and comes with short but well-written documentation and 8 V battery.Amazon states that this item is one that is frequently returned. I suspect that this is due to a lack of technical literacy of certain users. Strictly, this unit does not detect moisture, but variations in capacitance due to different levels of moisture in a material. So the numbers you read do not matter precisely, but what counts is how they change compared with a reference material that is known to be dryish (nothing is 100% dry). The meter will show an artificially high reading if measured in the vicinity of metals, such as nails in studs behind drywall. It is not a black box, and has to used with some intelligence. The baseline (dry) reading for a vinyl floor laid over concrete or wood will differ from that of a drywall.I wish I had known about these before suffering my leak. You, however, do not have to make the same mistake.

First impressions are that this is very good quality, easy to use instructions and a great accurate display. I checked some kiln dried oak logs that have been stored indoors for the last 12 months and was given a 0% moisture reading. Also checked oak logs recently purchased with a slightly higher readings of between 09.7% and 10.8% so I'm guessing the accuracy is pretty good. To verify the readings were a positive result I checked one of our walls we'd had issues with in a previous roof leak and was surprised to see that it still has a high moisture level. Having found this I can check the progress of the wall drying out now the leak has been fixed. Brilliant little gadget to have, great price highly recommended.
