Great plant covers to protect your very sensitive plants in the southwest from the winter freezes.

This comes in a giant folded package, 10' x 30', so I cut pieces off of it as needed to cover my small raised beds. It's a weird material, very slick in a way, and thin. I have put it on 2 raised beds, but removed it from one of them since my arugula grew too tall under it! It seems to work fine. We have very hot sun in New Mexico that wilts plants even in Spring, and sometimes some cold snaps in early Spring, so I think this has helped tremendously so far. I may have to double it up in Summer, since it seems pretty thin.

i used this to shield my plants from frost and it works well. there's a good thickness to the material and it's not very slippery. i think you could use this as a sun shield and it would work well. it would block around 30% of sunlight. easy to cut to size too!

Material was less sturdy and thick vs. another package I ordered on the same day from another company. I doubled up on this material to cover my plants for freezing weather/winds. It could be okay if you're looking for a lighter material. Let's put it this way, it's white and see-through, unless you double it up.

I bought this last year to experiment for hail protection. I constructed hoops out of rebar over my raised beds, and draped the material over them, securing it with clothespins. I never experienced any hail last summer. I removed it for the winter, storing it in a shed. Sadly, when I went to reapply it this year, I discovered that mice had used it for bedding! Big holes. However, I had purchased two packages, so put up the second one same as the first. When there was no hail risk, I rolled it up from the sides, secured it with twine in a roll at the top of the hoops. We had a rainy spring, but no hail. It was let down a couple times only. Then our summer drought started. Since the end of June, we have had minimal rain in only a couple showers, so the material has remained tied up. Imagine my surprise when I looked outside to find it in tatters, and blowing all over my yard! It has turned into a kind of microplastic. Even picking up the pieces causes it to crumble in your hand. I spent a couple hours with my shopvac, trying to pick up most of it. The machine actually overheated. I will not purchase anything like this again. Now, I know it wasn't meant to protect from hail, and it wasn't called on to do that. But normal sun and wind was beyond its capabilities as well, which I do not think was reasonable. I see it isn't available any more, so I may not be the only dissatisfied purchaser.
