I parced out a gravity fed kit versus purchase an entire one because I did something slightly different with it. I didn't need a clean bag, and wanted the tubes to flow directly from the filter to a Platypus Plus Bottle. We carried two of the Plus Bottles, and this worked perfect for our travels through central/south america for the last 8 months. It is compact, light, no pumping required, no iodine or chlorine, gravity fed, and fills a liter bag in less than 2 minutes. Here are the parts we purchased to make the kit work:- Platypus GravityWorks 2.0L Reservoir "Dirty" (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AZVMS72/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_33)- Platypus GravityWorks Hose Kit (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00453ULP2/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_32)- Platypus GravityWorks Filter Cartridge (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00453ULCA/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_35)- Platypus Plus Bottle 1L (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002EQDP96/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_43)- Platypus Drinking Tube Kit (https://www.amazon.com/Platypus-07045-Drinking-Tube-Kit/dp/B000J2H8OA/ref=sr_1_2?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1466879474&sr=1-2&keywords=platypus+drink+tube)The Plus Bottles took abuse, and were fantastic due to:- having a loop for a carabiner or hook to hang- water wouldn't 'glug' out of the bottle as with a rigid plastic bottle when it needs to fill with air, as this didn't need to refill with air- it took up only as much room in a bag as you had fluid in it, as you could compress the air out of itThe down side to the system:- the bottles are difficult to clean, especially in third world countries where you can't find the typical items to clean them and due to it having a small opening- the bottles are showing sign of destruction (after much abuse) where the bag is adhered to the openingI would absolutely purchase this system and all parts again for lightweight traveling - it was perfect and saved money when we didn't have to purchase bottled water.

I bought this to make my own filter system. I already own two Platypus bladders and made one a dirty bag and one a clean bag. The tubing that comes with the bladder is the right size for the nipples on this filter, they fit very snug and will not come loose. I also bought this set of quick connectors for the Platypus bladders that I own, this is really what makes the system so awesome. I can click in the filter to my clean bag and when full I can just click my drinking hose in it's place. When I go backpacking, this quick system is very well liked. It is much faster than pumping (especially when doing large amounts of h2o) so I end up filtering for the whole camp. Cleaning is very easy, just squeeze the clean bag a little and watch the brown water wash back out. I didn't realize I had to clean it often, on my first trip with this I was really upset that it was so slow after a few days in the woods. When I got home, I washed it back and forth with clean water and then it magically flows at high speed again. I recommend prefiltering large bits out of the water with a t-shirt or scarf so no large bits clog the filter.Definitely will buy another when/if it goes bad, maybe sooner for a back up. I love this system and would highly recommend the actual filter system from Platypus if you don't want to 'make' your own.I forgot to mention, the taste is fantastic! I was really worried about it and carried many drink mixes to hide the fish poop taste I was sure to find after filtering with this.... NOT SO! The water is very clean tasting, I have filtered lake water, river/stream, muddy wash water in the desert, (never standing water, tho I can't imagine I would care if I was that desperate). Very happy with the taste of this water. I did a side by side comparison with my friends MSR ceramic filter and it tasted the same to us both, only he has to squeeze his water through a stone (the ceramic filter) while I just hang mine and come back for delicious water.

These are great filters. A little pricey, but you get a lot of use out of them so I can’t complain too much.

This filter is so easy... and so fast! Pumping water through a filter pump was always a pain. I changed to inline gravity filters a few years ago, and they were easy but very slow (as in drip-drip-drip). This filter solved that problem. It flows very fast, filters well, is very easy to backflush/clean, and can fill my hydration bladder without even taking it out of my pack! I have always like MSR/Platypus products, but this one is the best they have come up with. It makes water filtration so easy, that I was not afraid to use lots of water for cleanup and cooking, as it was easy to filter more.I do recommend you buy the 'Dirty' reservoir and hose kit (or the complete setup) your first time, so you get the full benefit of this filter. If you already have a drip-bag system, this filter could easily replace your current filter in that system.

I've gone through 2 filters. They worked fast when new and the hands free bag system worked great for me while on week long backpacking trips. Unfortunately both my filters failed after limited use (22 days total) probably due to freezing. I remembered to sleep with them in my bag at night when in freezing temps but left them in my pack while hiking in freezing weather in the mornings. The filters would still pass water but at a very slow pace. Attempting to blow air back through the filter to test for failure indicated that the filters were still functioning. I plan on picking up another Platypus filter to test it's longevity (I'm curious about the failures). I did pick up a Sawyer Squeeze for my next backpacking trip.

I bought this to replace my old cartridge. It's the exact same as the original. Very happy with this. It has been on every camping trip with me and has kept me hydrated.Trick, when it is clogged, unplug it, give it a good blow and plug back in (or back feed into the dirty bag). Works like a charm.

I love my Platypus gravity filter. Cartridges last a really long time, especially if you back flush regularly and maintain it after a trip. But they wear out eventually and it was a lot cheaper to buy a replacement here than it was at the camping store.
