The material is a solid metal. Only takes about 5 minutes to install. Looks pretty seamless where it sits it is a perfect fit. I purchased this locked for small trips to homedepot to keep my tools from walking away. Handle is plastic on my tailgate but the lock is metal. Definitely gives you peace of mind. The cost is also not bad $60 is better then losing a couple hundred in tools or other items you might want to keep secured.! I would definitely buy again for my other trucks.

This lock will do the job and looks good BUT...DO NOT USE THE ONE-WAY SCREW THEY PROVIDE!! Use a hex bolt screw. I used the one way screw and the lock wasn't sitting right and DAM you know the rest.. But after the correction, works like a champ!!

Application:I purchased this product for a 2000 Chevy Silverado. I wanted a locking tailgate handle to prevent the folding tonneau cover and the contents of my bed from being stolen or tampered with.Instructions & Installation:Written instructions are not included. Scan the QR code on the box, enter the model number, download PDF instructions from the manufacturers website. The instructions leave a lot to be desired though. They read like cheap product instructions with very poorly drawn illustrations.Installation was easy, getting the lock bent into position enough for it to function was not. The lock body requires modification right out of the box for the lock to function as advertised. The lock body, if not adjusted/bent properly, interferes with tailgate handle function, and prevents the lock from locking and/or unlocking. I bent the lock mounting tab a few times to get it to install properly. The lock functions fine after you bend it and find the sweet spot. The body of the lock mechanism might sit crooked in the tailgate handle bezel after installation though, mine does. Don't use the included tamper proof bolt, it’s total crap. Use a Torx head bolt if your truck does not have a tailgate cover, or a hex head bolt if your truck has a tailgate cover. My truck has a tailgate cover so I used a hex head bolt.Final Thoughts:The lock does work, but the price is pretty high considering the quality of the product and what the end user has to do to make the product work as advertised. This lock is there to deter honest thieves. If someone really wants to open the tailgate on your truck they can and will very easily without tools. I'm, giving the product 3 stars to start. I will see how it performs over the next year and edit the review with good or bad results.

I have a 20 year old GMC pickup and needed to be able to lock tail gate. Looked around local to locate a suitable unit none was found. Saw this unit on Amazon and tried it out . Works perfect and easy to install. Good product ðŸ‘

Lock was easy to install, work smoothly. Would suggest to anyone installing this lock to spray the lock down with fluid film or other corrosion inhibitor as the tailgate will see a lot of spray from driving in wet or snowy weather.

The tailgate lock is something that has long been needed. Finally, some of the newer trucks come from the factory with this feature, but if you drive an older truck, it's nearly impossible to find something like this. Quick and easy to install, and provides some security for items in the back of your truck. Should help deter would be thieves, or at least slow them down. Fairly well built, but knocked off one star due to high price. But even at the high price, it's worth it if my generator stays in the truck.
