This thing works great! Easy to install and nice quality. The lock coding works as advertised and couldn’t be easier. One key to lock and unlock all the doors and start the truck, plus I was able to keep my backup camera!

Almost didn’t buy this because of some negative reviews but did because of several favorable ones. Everything is exactly as advertised except in the description it’s listed as “paintedâ€, it is not. It’s black molded plastic which is better. One review said it was flimsy but actually it seems the same quality as the original, Toyota Tacoma non locking latch I replaced. Item did not come with instruction but I watched a video before I ordered it and was able to install in 25 minutes from memory. It took a little maneuvering to get the new latch in the opening because it is a little bigger than the non locking original. I sprayed some silicone on the two tailgate side clasps while I had things opened up. I removed the sticker over the key hole, inserted the ignition key and the coding went perfectly. My one key now opens all the doors, starts the truck and opens the tailgate latch. If you’re worried about the durability I would suggest a little push on the tailgate as you pull out on the latch to relieve some pressure. I first thought this it was a tad pricey but considering how well it’s made (same as original) and the key coding I think it is a good value.

The Pop & Lock PL5400 is a great after-market accessory. I was very disappointed (and somewhat surprised) that my 2015 Tacoma didn't have a locking tailgate from the factory. I like to carry my bed extender, a couple of moving blankets, a tarp, some tools, etc., in the bed of the truck, but I was hesitant to do so without a locking tailgate to go with my hard tonneau cover. So I was exceptionally pleased to find this part.And even though the Amazon compatibility checker said this part isn't compatible with my 2015 Tacoma Pre-Runner, I checked the Pop & Lock web site--and read some of the other reviews here--and found that it is compatible. The package itself shows only 2005-2014, but I suspect that's because it was just old inventory. Anyway, it fit fine.Installation was incredibly easy. It took me less than 30 minutes start to finish, and it was only that long because I let my seven-year-old "help." My best advice would be to watch the installation video on Pop & Lock's web site once or twice to get the general idea of what you'll be doing. They even show close ups of some of the "tricky" parts, which really aren't that tricky. Then, follow the included instructions carefully to ensure you don't miss any of the steps; they are all important. The instructions are complete and fairly well written. However, they could be better formatted to make them easier to use. Perhaps the company was restricted to only the front side of a sheet of paper (warranty on the back) and no color photos.The instructions really emphasize that, when using the BOLT codeable key technology, you have to use the same key you will normally use for the truck. This made me worry that only one of my two Toyota factory keys would work. It seemed strange, but they make a huge deal out of it. Both keys do, in fact, work. I guess perhaps they're concerned that you'll try to test with your Hyundai key just for grins? And if you are trying to decide between this model and the PL5100 that has its own keys, definitely spend the extra $25 on this one so you can use your existing truck keys. Life is too short to have to worry about additional keys.Ultimately, I am extremely pleased with this lock. The handle itself doesn't feel as sturdy as the original Toyota one. However, I suspect that's because it's not as long, since part of the handle is now replaced by the lock. I guess time will tell how sturdy it will be. But until I actually experience problems, I'm going with five stars.

PLEASE BUY THIS!!! I recently had my tailgate stolen and it took 4 weeks to get it replaced and $2,500 dollars. Thieves are on the rise and this $100 investment will give you peace of mind. I added the hinge collar for $20, and flipped my tailgate cables so you can't slide them out. This was easy to install and accommodates your back up camera. Also, the key match option is amazing. Works well. Let's stop these thieves in their tracks.

The Pop & Lock PL5400 was the perfect replacement for the factory non-locking handle on my Tacoma. Their video with step by step instruction made installation super easy and the setup for my ignition key was also very simple. The mechanism in my factory handle had corroded and was making it difficult to get the tailgate to latch. Now it closes with an easy push instead of a slam. I would definitely recommend this product.
