My son has a Ford F150 Platinum with a rearview camera in the tailgate handle assembly. I have a Dodge Ram 3500 also with a rearview camera in the tailgate. Tailgate theft has started to become a problem around here. I have done some of the deterrent methods to both pickups. I've placed a pipe clamp around the right side pivot which has the slot that allows the tailgate to be lifted up and removed. I cut off the head of the set screw. We also kept the tailgates locked. That is a pain whenever we need to drop the tailgates to load stuff. For my truck the key is inside the wireless doorlock remote and is not easy to get out. Plus there is always the possibility I would forget to lock it back when I finished unloading the bed.The Pop & Lock Power Tailgate Lock is something the auto manufacturers should have put on the tailgate in the first place. It is awesome! I have installed it on both trucks. The instructions are pretty easy to understand. It might not be something for a person who has never had to remove trim or tie into existing vehicle wiring to try and tackle for the first time. Anyhow, there are videos that can be found on the internet that show step by step how to install this actuator. It took about 3 hours. The most difficult part was connecting the wires to the proper pair of door lock wires. There are two pair you can wire to. One is for the driver's door and the other is for the rest of the doors. I happened to get the pair for the driver's door which is the one I wanted. You can unlock the driver's door and tailgate with one press of the button . It works like a charm! I know that whenever I lock the doors on my truck, my tailgate is locked as well. And it unlocks every time I unlock my driver's door. Now, will this keep your tailgate from ever being stolen? No. In fact not even the factory installed tailgate lock will do that. Any thief who is determined enough only has to unscrew the access panel on the inside of the tailgate and manually unlock the tailgate. One way to prevent theft is to always back up to a wall or pole so that the tailgate cannot be lowered and that will keep them from stealing it. One other thought would be to replace some of the Torx head screws with some anti-theft screws that require a special bit to remove them. Until then I can rest a little more comfortably knowing the tailgates on my truck and my son's are always going to be locked when we lock our vehicles.Update: I just recently had to rent a truck. A 2016 Dodge Ram SLT and the tailgate locks with the doors!

I don't know why you can't get a tailgate lock from the factory, but this went in very nicely and works great. It takes probably 1.5-2 hours for a novice to install, and I did have it stick a little bit to start - I think it has to do with the mechanism rubbing on the lock. However, this was easily fixed by putting a washer between the factory lock mechanism and the actuator mechanism (the area right beneath the right nut that you have to remove in order to install the mechanism. Hope that makes sense. So it will be lock, washer, actuator mechanism. This just makes things move a lot better ( not sure why one wasn't included. The only other tricky part was finding the wires... For me it was grey with brown stripe / light blue with green stripe. I have a 2013 F150 Crew Cab.The ties that come with the kit work great to tuck the wiring harness out of the way- just make sure that you don't have it tucked against anything hot. I just kept mine close to the factory wiring underneath the truckv -They give you plenty of wire harness. And you wouldn't want to have to cut where the short and long parts connect, so if I was going to do it again... I would take about 3-4 feet off the harness up at the front where you can easily splice the connectors. I just did a little backtracking with the harness to use up excess line.... overall still tidy and neat wiring.Hope that helps.

Update 2 (3/2021). My truck got hit and was totaled last year but I was able to take this off and gave it to a friend, it’s still going strong in his truck! It still was one of the best upgrades I did to that truck.UPDATE: As I still very much like this on my truck it does not do was well in the cold (Chicagoland winter) it locks ok but sometimes it take more than one try to unlock. It sits a bit off (that's why they give you washers) adding a 3rd Washer seems to have helped a bit but I think supporting the end by the motor and wires with a peice of foam between the black housing and the wall of the tailgate will be the best fix. it reduces to amount of pressure required to throw the lock. In my heated shop it still works fine just when it's been outside in the 20°F and below it's having problems getting unlocked on first go. (Side note the key lock works just fine if you find yourself with this issue.) Reducing to 4 stars. But still very happy I have this on my truck!Easy to install. Works as advertised. Great addition to my '14 F150. Now just like the '15+ has electric locking tailgate!Best add-on I have done so far. No more pulling up, jumping out of the truck to throw something in the back to find you left the tailgate locked.... Back to the cab, shut the truck off take the key and unlock.... Hated it was a pain in the butt. (Always kept it locked, dealer told me that tailgates were easy score for theifs. With the camera and all its a $$ parts. They knew for several people who had them stolen right off the back of the truck, was partly why '15+ have standard elect lock tailgate)Wireing-must got to passengers side if you want to be able to put on the 2step unlock with non drivers doors. Go to drivers side and attach to wire harness along frame if you want to unlock when drivers door unlocks. 2step unlock wire in NOT on drivers side.Install-Best to install the plug on the tailgate side Incase you ever want to unplug, very tight fit through hole on truck with camera wire in their too.I wanted the 2step unlock with my passenger doors so I ran wire to passengers side frame and then inside frame. Good protection keeps away from heat of exhaust and no good spots to anchor the wire outside of frame. It's a little work but worth it. Transition to inside the truck at the passenger side rear door area. Remove the rear passenger kick panel and you'll find a grommet at the very back a small hole and you can move the wire into the truck. Run the wire a long next to the wire harness up towards the front passenger door remove the front passenger kick panel and you will find the appropriate wires to tap into. My truck had several wires of the same color, any one seems would have worked. I picked one that was able to get free easy. I used an amp clamp to confirm I have the proper wire clamp around the wire and use the lock unlock remote you should see a small Spike if you have the proper wire. My amp clamp is an AC clamp and it worked. That's it clean it all up and your done. Plan on 2 hours if you take your time and make it look clean. I also used wire sheath in the tailgate to protect from sharp edges. To get from lock to bottom of tailgate by camera wire I used a snake but a wire shirt hanger will work I found that going a bit to the drivers side of the latch their was a easy shot to get to the bottom opening. Their are supports with holes in the tail gate so a bit of probing is required to get through. Watch a few videos and you'll get an idea. Etrailer website has a good video. Google etrailer Popandlock install video you'll find it. It starts with a white F150!I love this on my truck it was the best addition I have made.

Excelente protección para la tapa de la batea de la camioneta, asà no se te olvida ponerle seguro con la llave ya que al cerrar botones o lockear las puertas con la alarma lo hace también la tapa.

This thing works like a charm. The install was easy, even if I am an electrician. I installed the cable on the passenger side and ran it through my frame with a fish tape and secured it with tie wraps. The instructions that came with were easy to follow and I connected the wires as recommended. The tailgate now unlocks with my passenger door. One question I had and ended up search forever for, was did it work with the easy step in my 2012 f150. It does without a problem. Great addition to my truck so far.

Its exactly as described, and easy to install on your own. The instructions are accurate. I found a premade hole under the carpet on the drivers side to bring the wire into the cab. It does however rattle when you close or open your tail gait, due to the design.

Kit came complete with nothing. Watch the utube video and one you find the right wires to tap into your in great shape. I took the passenger side step plate off and once I found the right color { there is a lot or wiring so be careful as some wires look almost the same] I got it to work first time

The fitment is good as long as you can use hand tools to dis-assemble the 2014 F150 step tailgate to slip the solenoid into the cavity. I added some foam tape to prevent shorter life due to road vibrations. Beware that the wiring instructions ARE WRONG !!!! You must run the wire up the right side of the Super-Cab, find the factory hole in the floor covered with tape so you can run the wires up and under the carpet as you find your way to the passenger kick panel which is where the wires are to be connected. Understand that Pop and Lock does not warranty this item purchased here.
