I think for small harmless snakes, this is sufficient. I wouldn't recomend it for large poisonous varieties though. I use it for lifting small objects that may hide a small one and never use my hands to lift anything where I might get bitten. I carry a heavier stick and tong for the dangerous work.

Ok, so if you read the reviews (1star) they are very accurate, example.. cheaply made, it could bend or break when lifting a snake, being retractable it could easily collapse (retract) while pinching the snake something you wouldn't want to happen.I had to tape mine so it won't retract, and I don't trust it if handling a big snake.Thank you for reading.

I originally purchased this the first time to help retrieve disc golf discs out of difficult to reach areas. It works surprisingly well for that and it collapses into something small enough to fit in my disc bag.It has also become my go to tool for retrieving cat toys from under our washer and dryer. I do not use this to handle snakes.Eventually the telescoping part fails with a couple small metal pieces coming out and it not being fully together anymore.I'm literally buying it again because I have no better prospects for the above mentioned scenarios. Just be aware it will only last about a year with repeated extension.

I thought it was good but when I went to use it to get my snake out, the hook just fell off the pole. I guess it was cheaply made. Not to sure but it sucked.

This broke after a couple times out herping, I used it to move aside leaf litter and grasses. Any tension at all and it breaks.

It's alright for a few moments but, the hook is not very strong and bends.Probably more suitable for a corn snake.
