I have a couple of very old lamps I inherited from my grandmother that are 70+ years old and one of them was giving problems with the 3 way switch in it. So I looked at the offerings here on Amazon and they showed 2 different types, one made with a housing made of metal that kind of snaps together and this plastic one that screws together. I went with this plastic one as I think it's sturdier than the snap together metal one, which was like the one I was replacing. It installed just as easy as the metal type and it works well. I also went with a LED 50-100-150 bulb, which only draws 20 watts on the high setting, so I am not worried about temperature degradation of the plastic either. The 3 way switch has a good, crisp feel when adjusting the setting too. I am keeping the second one as a spare for when the other old 3 way switch goes out.

Fantastic fit and my lamp is working great. The fixture it replaced was very poor but this fixture l haven gotten from Amazon is heavy duty.

Works great, and super easy to install. You probably can use your old light bulb base (the bottom of the socket assembly). Simply remove the switch assembly by using a large adjustable plyer with at least a 1.5 inch opening to grip the unit near the switch post. Squeeze and pull up. Disconnect the two wires and attach them to the new 3-way socket. Insert the new switch assembly and you're done.

I had old lamps with inoperative switches. These were an easy replacement, work smoothly, and cost less than big-box options. I like 3-way LED bulbs, which are not as finicky as dimmable bulbs.

All plastic. I reused the metal base with the set screw from my lamp. The rest fit together just fine. Basically you get what you pay for, but problem solved.
