Update, not sure if I want to keep this or not. After reading the manual, and checking with their support team, they say you cannot over-panel and have to ensure you never feed it more than its listed 1600W. I thought the idea of the MPPT was to control the current so that the unit clips the excess power. I wanted to have an 1800 watt array so that cloudy days will provide a bit more power for the batteries. When it doesn't need the excess, it should self limit, but they are telling me that the current will not self limit. Maybe I should return it and get the Victron. sigh---- I bought this NOW with an extended warranty because here in PA, the ground is frozen and my ground solar array won't go in until the spring. But the unit arrived undamaged I believe, although the styrofoam inside the box was cracked and fractured everywhere, due to the enormous weight of this unit. It's a beastie. I guess that big transformer inside really ISN'T a joke. I was watching reviews of the sister model on that video site, for the PowMr 5kw/15kw peak, and the transformer in that is probably the same one in this, just with the electronics limiting the output. Making two different giant toroidal transformers for runs of a product that could use the same one would probably be more expensive from a mfg standpoint. Either way, I will update this when I get it mounted on a wall that will support it.

In the settings one can limit the charging current from the grid (and/or solar). I get an unexpected brehavior: the set limit of charging (with the grid), is not limiting the preset current as it should. In stead it reached a very high current and the protection jumps in, disconnecting the cahrger. After a few seconds another attempt is made by the inverter, but the behavior repeats over and over againg. The current exceeds even the maximum 38 amps (going as high as 58 amps) I found out that I can fix it by disconneting the grid and the batteries and than start up again. Than it works again as intended. No damage or so to the inverter, but not as expected or intended. I don't charge with solar so I don't know if the same phenomena occurs with solar charging.

I purchased two of these and they both failed within a few months of installation. Both were used at far less than the advertised ratings, both for load and charge.Customer service from this company was a nightmare, they asked for all kinds of photos and asked all kinds of questions, then they repeated their questions and request, so I sent it all again, then they asked a third time, it was as though many different people were answering me and all were ignoring what the others were asking for. Then they told me they failed due to overloading, which is false, and all they offered to do was send out a new mainboard, as if I want to spend many hours repairing a product which will almost surely only fail again.I will not be buying any more products from PowMr and I would not recommend them to anybody, very dissatisfied customer.

I have a 15kWh battery supply to this inverter and have had no issues with a constant low demand over time. I occasionally put a load on it and it has performed well. Configuration details of the system could be documented better, but research and controlled testing should prevail.
