The top of the grinder can be seen as a little yellow. The top is greased/oiled on purpose to avoid friction. It's meant to be greased/oiled, without it, the product will heat up very quickly.

I have read all the bad reviews for this mixer here on Amazon and I figured out the reason why some of them were giving it a bad review.The reason for the bad review: "switches off every 1 minute" is that the mixer cannot handle the quantity that you are trying to blend because the mixer motor is not equipped to handle such heavy loads. Its a 550 watts motor vs the 750 watts motor that we get in India which is much more powerful. Like many others who have already mentioned, put half the amount of the container capacity, you are good to go. If not its going to switch off every minute with weird sounds because of the overload (personal experience) which will require you to reset the motor.My mother is here from India and I asked to test mixer with all the 3 jars, speeds and loads. This review is based on her experience.She made chutneys and idli batter the same day the mixer arrived.She has the same Preethi Eco Plus mixer back in India which can handle much heavier loads than mine because of the above mentioned reason (wattage).As for the bad reviews about receiving a used mixer, some speeds not working, I don't have an explanation. They seem to be genuine issues.I give it a 4 star because I still haven't located the warranty paper. An appliance costing so much must be covered under warranty for at least 2 years. If I do locate the warranty paper then I will come back and give it a 5 star.Oct 30, 2012I mailed Great Elect about the warranty card for the mixer they got back to me saying that the mixer comes with a 1 year warranty given by Preethi. Since there is a warranty I am giving this mixer a 5 star. The following is what I received in response to my query about the warranty.I will keep this review up to date if I face any issues with the mixer.Me:Hi,I bought a Preethi mixer and my order number is . I did not find a warranty card with my mixer and was wondering if you provide any at all?Response from Great Elect:Yes, we can provide you with a 1 year warranty that is provided from Preethi. It seems you have purchased this order from seller "Gandhi Appliances". You will not need any warranty card, and your order number will be enough. If you have any issues with your mixer, jars, or accessories needed, please contact us and we will send you the address for the Service Center in Chicago. I was worried reading about the old reviews here. But I still went and purchased the ECO Plus Mixer. The packaging was good and delivered promptly. BTW, I received a new product and not an old one like some of the buyers did.I started using it riteaway and after a couple of try's it stopped working. I read the manual for resetting it and realised that since the lid was too flimzy , i had to keep pressing it with my hands and because of this there was extra load on the mixer. I then resetted it and put only a little pressure just enough to keep the lid closed and it worked like a charm. However its too early to say anything. I will keep using it to make idly dough and will update this review in a few months.Just wanted to update the review. The product still works like a charm. I make Dosa mix every week, sometimes due to overload i have to push the red/reset button, other than that I love this product. Would definitely recommend.

After 8 months to date, Great Elect has sent me an email stating that they will offer me a free mixer if I remove this review. Their email quote "We would like all of our customers that have received mixers in bad condition to reconsider there thoughts on Preethi." which basically means there are bunch of other customers they have shipped this used mixer and now offering free mixer to get the reviews removed.I responded back to them that I dont care for their mixer and would rather leave the feedback as is. They came back again stating that they will make it "worth while" if I modify the review to say how good their customer service is1. They care for those of us who bought only because we have left them bad reviews2. They have quoted that Preethi as a company had shipped them these used/refurbished & uncleaned jars. Now they have resolved the packaging issues it seems.You would be better off begging someone to bring some mixer from India rather then buying it through Great elect. There are some stores in NJ selling it for $20 more and they provide support as well.My advise still is to AVOID GREAT ELECT AT ANY COST. If it was not for Amazon, I would not have gotten my money back from this shaddy company._________________________________We bought a new mixer but we were shipped used one. We see visible scratches on the mixer body. There are scratches on the bottom the mixer. The jars are used and cleaned. Powder dusts from the last usage is showing on the lid. There are scratches on the handle apart from its color shade due to its age.All associated parts are wrapped in a plastic cover to look authentic but "GREAT_ELECT/Great Elect Inc" has not realized that the items have rust on them. It is more like Great Cheats than Great Electronics. The box came opened, I knew since that moment that it was used, I took some pictures to send to Amazon and possibly to share the picture with other potential buyers.I dont know about you, but I am not interested in eating food from some one else's used plate. I happy that this order was fulfilled by Amazon which made the return easy, if it was from these cheats, I would end up paying for the return.These guys are possibly buying used mixer from India and selling it through Amazon. I bought this mixer grinder in India to use in the US and have been using it for over six months now. It has been working excellently without any issues. The motor is powerful, handling grinding tasks effortlessly, from chutneys to masalas and even batter preparation

I use this mixie for making dosa batter, smoothies, fruit juices, infant foods, chammanthi, etc..... I love this product as it is very useful to me. ....No other complaints till now......I love it.

I purchased this while in India for US purpose . I have started using the mixer it is good . Earlier I had same model used it for 8 yrs had to go for new one since jars wore out . I choose same model this time too .Motor sounds like a vacuum cleaner at home . Otherwise good for Indian cooking .I wish there were more models/colors/designs to choose from .Overall serves the need .
