Questions & Answers

Q: Why are the readings inaccurate or the values too light?

A: Wrong measurements were used! The correct method is to place your trigger finger on the back of the sensor housing and press firmly and pull the trigger slowly to obtain an accurate value.

Q: Why are the values varying so much over multiple readings?

A: Different leverage forces are applied which can lead to inconsistent results.

Easy to hold and easy to use. I can't rate accuracy because I have nothing to check it against. My triggers are typically 3 to 4 ounces in pull weight. It has been difficult to find an affordable gauge that could measure that low a weight, but this one does it in style.

This is an easy to use and read trigger gauge that appears to be relatively consistent. The design can make it a little awkward to get good readings and use with smaller trigger guards. I'm guessing most people will use it the way I did initially and just hold it by the main body when pulling, but that can result in some inconsistent readings due to the varying leverage and the tendency for the plastic tip to slide up and down the trigger. I try to position it in the middle of the trigger where my finger would be, as having it too high or low can give inconsistent results due to the different amount leveraging force being applied. I found pulling it by the back of the tip from the opposite side of where the gauge is inserted results in a much more consistent reading as you can keep it in the same spot on the trigger through the break. While the display is fairly visible, I would've preferred a different color or a slightly brighter backlight. The only odd thing I found was that while the counter can go above 40, the average resets to 0 after the 40th pull, resulting in an incorrect average value after that. Still that shouldn't be much of an issue as most people wouldn't be taking that many readings in a row. While I can't confirm it is spot on accurate, of the various pistols and rifles I tested, the really light triggers read between 2.5 and 3.5 lbs while the heavier ones were in the 5 to 6 lbs range. These readings seemed to line up well with the general fingertip feel I get between light and heavy triggers. Except for the really light one with an aftermarket spring, the rest were all factory original and the readings were within the expected values for each. Overall this trigger gauge seems to be a very good value for the price.

I paid only $18.99 for this Pridefend Digital Trigger Gauge and I'm impressed. Nice big buttons and the display is easy to read. Accuracy seems spot on. The scales I have at home are not "engineer grade" but I have a good digital postal scale and a good digital kitchen scale. I took a water bottle and tied a string to it then weighed it. Postal scale - 5lbs 13.4oz; Kitchen scale - 5lbs 14.0oz; Pridefend 5lb 12.5oz (average of 5 tries lifting the bottle with the string). So all three were within 1-1/2 ounces of each other which is about 1.6%.I usually measure trigger pull in pounds, so if a scale gets me to within an ounce or two? Great!I also tried dumping out most of the water to see how the scales would do with a light trigger. Postal - 2lbs 14.6 oz; Kitchen - 2lbs 14.8 oz; Pridefend - 2lbs 14.3 oz. OK, that's about a 1% difference -- still really close to each other. If I wanted to be really picky, Amazon has calibration weights selling for under $20. I could pick up a set to find out if the Pridefend is measuring 1% light, or is the kitchen scale weighing 1% heavy!

I thought I would try this digital over the traditional "fishscale" trigger gauge but was dissapointed by the results; consistently high readings and awkward to use

The way the grip is made is not conducive to getting straight trigger pulls. Also when checking it compared to a lyman digital gauge it is showing that the trigger is actually 2 + pounds heavier than this gauge says.

Ease my to use. Even an 80 year old figured it out. Sort of like “plug and play”. Enjoy!!!

OK, its a little unconventional, but seems to work. The only drawback I had was getting the load cell pad to fit inside the trigger guard of some of my smaller 9mm pistols, Diamondback DB9, SCCY DVG1 and Beretta APX A1 Carry, but with a little finesse I wiggled them in, then reset the gauge, then did the pull/press. I was really surprised that the Beretta kept coming back under 4.5lbs, I would have guessed it much higher as IMHO that trigger is the worst I own. My bigger SA/DA pistols measured up as expected under either condition although its hard to keep consistent pressure on the trigger thru a long heavy Single Action pull. Pretty easy for even a novice to use. Lost one star as the product could really be a lot smaller so it would fit inside a trigger guard and stay centered on the trigger better if the pressure pad was more V or U shaped
