I purchased this live center because at times after drilling a project one needs a large live center for stability. This live center is heavy duty, smooth running and no noise when spinning on lathe. Definitely a good product with a reasonable price. I recommend it.

I have an old Delta lathe that came with a dead center. This live center is a real improvement. It is cheaper than even 30 year old live centers from Ebay. It spins on axis just fine, and I don't think I have every come close to overloading it.I will note that the #2 MT is shorter than the traditional MT. This is good for some mini-lathes that cannot fit a full sized MT in place. Because of its shorter length, the automatic eject mechanism does not work in my tailstock. This however, is easily solved. I just cut a short piece of dowel (perhaps 0.5 in?), and put it in the tailstock between the internal eject mechanism and the MT of this live center. Reverse screwing the ram pushes the dowel which in turn ejects the live center.Be aware that the tip is sharp. You will want to move it well out of the way if you are not using the tailstock (e.g. bowl turning).It is also sharp enough to work its way into wood. I am planing to turn a collar to fit over it when I want to limit penetration.

I bought this to hold the tip of my pen jig and it works beautifully. I just insert the tip enough to stop any wiggle but no pressure is applied. I made 10 pens and so far no marks on the tip. That could change but for now I don’t see anything. I also like it for removing the tenon since it allows me full access to the bottom of the bowl.

Everything seems to work nicely, bearings are smooth, taper fits perfectly in my benchtop lathe. The only problem i had was the tip of the center head poked through the thin foam, and cardboard box, and was flattened. Luckily, buying this tool for a lathe, i simply threw it in my chuck, and touched some 100 grit sandpaper followed by some 400 grit, and it looks almost perfect again. All the actual funtional parts seem unharmed though, so not too much trouble, especially for the price point. I would recommend, seeing as anyone buying this product would be able to fix it using the machine it is used for.

I orderd this live center for a lathe project I recently completed. The price was very reasonable so I was pleasantly surprised by the quality. The finish is nice and it turns very smoothly. The point is very crisp and sharp, very sharp, don't ask. It worked beautifully for me and, with a little care, should continue to do so for a long time.

I read the other reviews of this tailstock and the problems they describe but all I can say is I have been using it for several months and it is working perfectly. The taper is handy for getting close to the end of a small diameter workpiece. It is reasonably priced and good quality for home use.

I just replaced this model after using the previous one for about ten years of occasional use. The bearings had become somewhat rough. If I had been turning all day every day the bearings might have lasted up to a year. Until the bearings began to fail performance was excellent. For my purposes this was satisfactory, but someone who plans to do a lot of turning for a long time might find spending more money for higher quality to be more economical in the long run.

Only on day 3 or so with it but it's working hard! Spun 20 odd pounds of Black Walnut today and it held up perfectly. If it lasts I'll be very happy. So 5 Star first impressions. I'll up date if it fails! I have used the smaller version for 2 or 3 years with no problems. Based on past experience and price I'm happy to recommend it.
