- Q: How to set up the detector to make it ready to detect?
- A: Turn on and wait for 30 seconds to warm up. Please keep in mind that the warm-up process should be performed in a known 'clean' environment to achieve accurate results.
- Q: How can I tell what sensitivity the detector is currently at?
- A: When the S button light is on, the detector is in high sensitivity mode; when the S button light is off, the detector is in low sensitivity mode.
- Q: Does the alarm continue until the situation is resolved?
- A: Yes, the alarm will continue to sound until the combustible gas concentration is below 5% of the lower explosive limit.
- Q: How close does the detector need to be to detect leaking gas from a natural gas pipeline?
- A: Generally 1-5cm, depending on the severity and concentration of the gas leak.
- Q: Can the sensors be replaced?
- A: We do not sell sensors separately. If you find that the sensor is no longer working within three years from the date of purchase, please get in touch with us.
- Q: What is the difference between a gas monitor and a gas leak detector?
- A: Gas monitors are used for continuous gas leak monitoring to monitor the air state in a large space, but they are unable to pinpoint the exact leak point. The gas leak detector is used to locate the source of the gas leak.
- Q: Can the PT199 detect CO and other gases produced during a fire? Can it be used as a fire alarm device?
- A: The PT199 is specifically designed to detect and locate sources of combustible gas leaks (such as natural gas, methane, propane, etc.) as a preventive measure to reduce explosion risks. This product works exactly as I would have liked it to. It detects propane almost immediately upon turning it on in my gas fireplace. I put on the pilot gas before igniting it, and it immediately detected it. I checked all my lines which are over 15 years old. and every one of them was still intact. Because it detected the propane so quickly in the pilot area, I had great confidence that there were no leaks in any of the joints that I checked. Well worth the money for peace of mind.

My friend has a Toptes and it works well. The unit I received did not detect a methane leak behind our stove. I am writing this review to say that if you think something is wrong, keep trying. You may need a different brand or model. You may have multiple leaks (perhaps methane and carbon monoxide) and need multiple detectors. Do what it takes to find the problem. Hopefully you will find the right solution for your situation. These units are small, affordable, and very nice design.

I installed NG lines for both a new whole hose generator and also for a gas dryer. Using this detector helped me track down a gas leak on the generator line that I could not find using the soapy water method. There are 2 settings one more sensitive so you can really track down the exact leak point. This saved me time and money. Highly recommended and will be handy in general for leak detection.

We tested this first on our stove and it works very well because it made noise and lit up from the gas from the stove. I got it to test if our fireplace was leaking any gas and it did not leak any gas. It was very easy to read, and the directions were easy to follow.

I have an RV w/propane tanks, at times getting whiffs of gas smell albeit slight which I should have payed more attention to. Wasn't until I significantly ran out of propane was forced to investigate the issue doing some soap leak down tests on hoses and relief valves which was not demonstrating any leak strong enough to identify then thought to get this tester which was a game changer. It immediately determined the gas leaks, the valve had been leaking all over and now was able to replace the proper part instead of wasting more time w/a soap test. Also, started thinking that this is an item everyone should have if they have gas in their house or anywhere bc it is something you shouldn't mess with, especially in a camper that is moving around a lot causing things to loosen or fail etc. This item really worked great, just turn it on, let it go through a short startup cycle and it immediately will sound if it senses gas or sound an alarm if it is a stronger leak. Bought another one for my home.
