These metering blocks combined with a wideband A/F gauge are the ticket to achieving excellent performance and drivability from a 4150 carb. I’m running a 650 DP on a small block ford with Trick flow heads, Performer RPM Air Gap intake 10.5:1 CR and Comp Cams XE 284 cam.I was having issues getting my idle, transition and cruise mixtures dialed in for decent drivability, and the adjustability provided by this kit solved the problem. I also removed the idle air bleeds inside the air horn and tapped them out for adjustable inserts as well. The combination of four corner idle and the adjustability have provided drivability results at part throttle on par with my fuel injected cars.You will most likely need to modify your carburetor body as well as the base to convert to four corner idle. This involves drilling holes and plugging passages. If you don’t understand fuel and airflow through the various circuits in a 4150, you’re going to need an expert’s help to make the modifications. If you’re wanting four corner idle, this is generally not a “bolt-on†kit unless your main body and baseplate are already set up for it.The quality of the parts, fit/finish and machine work are awesome and well worth the asking price. The instructions are sparse, and don’t give a ton of insight into the finer points of dialing your carb in or modifying for four corner idle. Again, if you’re a beginner, you will need some expert help or your results may not be good.The bleeds/jets that are included in the block yielded overly rich results for my small block combo, and both the idle fuel bleeds as well as the power valve channel restrictor jets needed to be reduced considerably to get mine where I needed. Depending on carb size, engine combo and environmental factors etc., there are too many variables to make it likely that the provided bleeds and jets are going to be perfect for your application right out of the box. Expect to have to do some work and some tuning to get it dialed in, but this kit will give you the ability to do so that far exceeds the normal levels of tuning you can do with a stock 4150. The price is fair, the quality is excellent and the results are well worth the time and trouble to dial it in.
