Used this for taking thickness measurement on my surfboards. You could pay ~$100 for a wooden one, or much less for this beast. The rotating nut on the lead screw is ideal for not losing the width when you move the tool around, not many calipers have this critical feature.

I needed a basic caliper so that I could check the diameter of my pedestals as I'm turning them. It's exactly what I needed.

Just what you would expect from a basic caliber. I see no issues or apparent problems with it
Very poorly made. Don't waste your money.

Suppose to be 7 1/2", but the package says 8". I measured and the overall length is 9 1/2". These suckers are pretty long. I could see a hammer being a couple inches off, but this is a measuring device. Made out of fairly thin unfinished solid steel - it's not the cheap stamped stuff, so I'll probably be able to modify them myself. In fact, they look to be hand made out of bar stock. The grind is irregular, but the points are sharp and line up together perfectly, like someone spent a little effort on the points. When you look at the picture and see the points line up, the threaded screw adjustment looks like it tilts down a little and the knurled knob at the top looks like it leans to the right, well, that is exactly how it comes. Brand name Hawk, Model TZ4508-D. Hawk Importers has their price sheet online, lol. These wholesale for $2.17. They are well worth that in my opinion.

Once you loosen them up they work great. Just take your time expanding the tools the first time. Would purchase again.

Only thing I don't like is they rust but they still work fine.

Absolute GARBAGE!! Craftsmanship was shameful. Tool is not as pictured. Sharp edges everywhere but the tips of the legs. Leg tips themselves are 1/16" thick and don't line up. I intended to use this for very forgiving projects not requiring specific measurements. They came out of the packaging and straight into the garbage. Very adamant "Buyer Beware"!
